She had to wonder why, a lot of times, if something decided to happen, it would happen few hours after midnight. It wasn't always, but a lot of things happen during that time when the only thing she wanted to do was sleeping.

It was a cold night. Elis usually slept like a trunk, dead in her slumber and seldom she got awakened by the sound of her phone ringing in the middle of the night. But she did.

A groan escaped her as she blindly search for her phone on the night stand whilst her whole body under the comforting thick layers of blanket. Another thing that made her bitter, it was a Friday night and she was adamant about sleeping early and woke up later in the middle of Saturday. It seemed someone wanted to interrupt her wishful planning and decided to call in the middle of the a.m.

"What the fuck?"

"Hey Elis."

Elis swore to God at the exact moment, she hated Colton with every cell in her body.

"The fuck?" she repeated without any ounce of elegance in her system. No. Not with Colton.

"I never knew your lack of vocabulary and proper words would be lacking in the middle of the night, but I think that's better than receiving your 'Yeah, I'm Elis' awkward voice." he replied, mocking her voice.

Elis didn't reply. She honestly wasn't in the mood. She had a long shower and a good night snack of her mom moist brownie cheesecake with hot milk before bed, and she desired to sleep away the school at the moment.

"You aren't in the mood." he stated bluntly after a while.

"That's fuckin' obvious you shit head. What the hell do you want?" she half yelled, pulling in herself into the covers, savouring the warmth that it provided.

"You seriously asking me that?" his tone changed all of a sudden, like he was hurt and in pain emotionally.

Elis paused, letting seconds passed. It didn't take that long before she snapped out of it and sat up straight on her bed. She was wide awake, her head cleared like a fog vanished into the sky. Elis hated it when realisation hits like a fucking brick. She absolutely hate it.

"I'm outside." he said before he hung up.

"Damn-" Elis cursed loudly but not loud enough to wake her mom. She stumbled from her bed and hurried to the door, yanking a sweater in the mean time. She wore it when she skipped the stairs, getting to the door and stumbling while unlocking it.

A relief washed over her when Colton was standing on the doorstep.

"Colton," she called out. Colton turned around and gave Elis a small smile.

"Can I hug you?" he asked, stepping forward towards Elis. His nose, cheeks and ears were crimson red, but his eyes were beautiful like always.

Elis nodded. She hugged Colton first, her eyes still wide.

"You are fucking dumb you know that?"

"Thanks for worrying." he mumbled in her hair, pulling himself from Elis.

"You were gone for a fucking week and now you show up in my doorstep, asking for a fuckin' hug?" she was somehow pissed and angry, but also worried. She frowned and sighed.

Colton smiled guiltily. "I gotta figure out something." he told her, averting his gaze.

"Yeah? Is that why you are here? Wanna tell me about it?" she inquired, quirking an eyebrow. She wasn't serious about it, but she just asked anyway out of curiosity. But she wasn't going to push it if he refused. But he didn't.
