|Madi's POV
   »The Night Before«

Once I made the decision to move to Oregon, I called my dad. He booked a plane to Maryland right away. My mom at first was upset, but supported my decision. Haillie was the one who felt most upset about it. I was leaving my best friend behind, I couldn't blame her.

"All Ill have is Mark," she laughed and closed a box. She was helping me pack the last of my things. Her voice was weak and filled with sadness.

"Don't worry," I laughed back and stacked up the boxes. "When we go to LA this summer we'll spend every second together." Haillie and I were going to LA for two weeks over the summer, just to chill and spend some time together.

"But that's in like 7 months." She groaned and flopped onto my bed. I laughed and layed next to her. We talked about all the possibilities that could happen over the next 7 months; Haillie worried about me finding a new best friend when no one could replace her, how I would tell her about all the hot guys at school, or even if there was someone else.

At that moment, I thought of Bryce. It pained me to leave him, but it was for the best. I needed to get away from all of this high school drama. As Haillie rambled on about her most recent date with Mark, I continuously thought of the good times. From when we made cookies with Mark, to the time where he called me his girlfriend when we saw Alyssa at the mall, then to the night we looked at the stars on New Year's.

My thoughts were interrupted when my dad opened the door, cutting Haillie off.

"Ready, kiddo?" He asked and leaned against the door frame. I nodded and grabbed two boxes. Haillie, my dad, Mark, and I all took the last of my boxes down to moving truck. We were driving back to Oregon, mainly so we can catch up and see more of the country.

As my dad was closing up the truck, I hugged everyone. First my mom, then John, then Haillie, and then Mark. I teared up as Mark tightly wrapped his arms around me.

"Thank you for being the worst brother ever." I joked and let a tear slip down my cheek. I pulled away and whipped my eyes. Mark smiled at me and playfully punched my arm.

"You're one to talk," he laughed and let a tear slip down his cheek, also. "I mean, you literally take up all the hot water when you shower."

I laughed and hugged him again. I was truly going to miss everyone.  I pulled away and said my last goodbyes. My dad opened the truck door for me and I climbed in. As I buckled in, I saw Mark grab Haillie's hand and pull her close to him. My dad then got in and started the car. As we backed out of the driveway, I waved goodbye to my family.

We followed the GPS' directions and drove through Maryland. Soon, a familiar house came into view. Bryce's house stood out like a black rose in the mix of red ones.  And in the moment, I wish we could stop. I wish I could say goodbye to him, but I couldn't.

I let a tear slip as we drove out of Ellicott City, my home.

The End.
