~Sam's POV~
We got up in the morning and joined Hannah in the main room. "Hey kiddo." I stated.
"Hey." She answered.
"So, I think we should go to the lady's office and get custody of you. I promise she can't take you again. There is one thing we're gonna need you to do though." I explained.
"What?" She asked. She didn't seem scared for once which was a pleasant surprise.
"If the lady asks you, tell her that we got you out when someone was killing your parents. We'll explain it to her, but if she asks you to agree with what we said, I need you to say that." Dean explained. Hannah nodded. We piled in the car and headed out. We took 3 seats across the desk from lady and she began spouting questions left and right.
"When did you first find Hannah?"
"Um, last November." I answered.
"Hannah, how did you like living with them?"
"I love it! They are both amazing. They love me and care about me and sing to me when I'm scared or have trouble sleeping and they are the best daddies in the world." She answered adorably. The lady showed nearly no emotion and it made all of us really uncomfortable.
"Ok. How did you get her back from her adoptive parents?" She asked.
"I don't know if you've heard, but they were murdered in their house. We went to their house to talk to them about getting Hannah out, and managed to break in and get Hannah out when the people were killing them." Dean explained.
"Is this true, Hannah? You have to tell the truth." She asked.
Hannah looked at me with fear in her eyes. "Yeah. They got me out." Hannah said softly.
"Hannah, if you are lying, you could be in a lot of trouble." The lady urged.
"Ok. The truth is, they broke in and beat up the guys who were killing them enough to make them run off. My parents were already dead. I was hiding upstairs and Sam and Dean got me to come back down." She stated. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"Ok. Well, I think you're cleared. You have a couple discrepancies on your background check, but nothing more than basic shoplifting, and that was many years ago. You seem to have cleaned up your act, so you are all clear." I forgot that we had used our fake last name of Johnson for everything here so we didn't have everything on our record. It was a good thing though. "Just sign these papers and initial here, and you're good to take your precious little daughter home." The lady stated. As I waited for Dean to finish signing so I could, the lady spoke up, now showing more emotion. "If you don't mind me asking, how long have the two of you been married?" I wanted to laugh so hard.
"Ma'am, Dean's my brother." (Season 1 throwback)
"I'm sorry, sir. She called you both daddy and I guess I just assumed." She replied.
"It's ok. I've heard people mess that up before. We just don't have girlfriends at the moment." I added before picking up the pen and signing where I needed to. I finished up and we were about to head out.
"Sam, Dean, can I talk to you two for a moment?" The lady asked.
"Hannah, can you give us a moment?" She nodded slightly and sat in the hall.
"Is something wrong with all of this?" Dean asked.
"Not necessarily. I just wanted to inform you that you guys have custody but that isn't the same as adopting her. At the moment you guys are more like foster parents in a sense. There's no other family that is going to get her, but legally, she is not your adopted daughter. I'm telling you this because I'm not sure you'll be able to adopt her." She explained.
