Chapter 28

Elfrida

The small group of sixteen was led by Akili, Cammi, and Cole to their secret hide out. Not very secret, considering Elfrida and the others already knew about it, but then they don't know that now do they. And she didn't plan on telling them anyway. They were worried about her enough already.

Elfrida almost regrets her actions. Almost. She and the others entered the cabin that became smaller with how many people there were in it now. Elfrida didn't really know the others. They were always just there. She had met some of them in class, like Ally. Ally, like Chase, had warned her to stay away from Audrey and her crew. Said she was a manipulate bitch.

Elfrida figured she had bad experiences with Audrey. Not surprising since its Audrey. Audrey loves creating trouble where she can, make enemies. Command the room, so to speak, gather a following. Though not necessarily for herself, mostly for the Master. The Master always liked how she had a natural ability to convince people to do what she wants.

She sighed as she finally sat down on the couch, Elfrida felt like she'd been on her feet for hours. She leaned back laying her head on to the back of the couch. She felt the weight of the couch go down as someone joined her on the couch. Elfrida opened her eyes and found Chase gazing at her.

She was too tired to move, the events of the day were hanging on her like a shadow does on a body. Chase motioned her to come closer and told her to use his shoulder as a pillow. She almost didn't, but against her better judgement she moved over and laid her head down on top of his shoulder, trying to get comfortable.

She couldn't help but remember that night at the party, when things had changed for them. When they had kissed. It had meant something. Something Elfrida had never expected to feel. But she can't think of it. It felt like she was cheating on the one who held her heart, who demanded her heart.

But she stayed where she was, in fact she fell asleep. Elfrida woke up several hours later with the sun blazing form the window still with her head on his shoulder. The only things that changed is that his arms were circled around her and his head was laying on top of her's. He had fallen asleep holding her.

It was starting to get too bright, and with a few vampires in the room, all laying somewhere. Whether it was the floor or chair, just about everyone was asleep. Elfrida saw one of her sisters on the floor sleeping away. She didn't see the other one but figured she was one of the lucky ones sleeping on one of the beds in one of the bedrooms. There was only two bedrooms, both small.

She sighed. Elfrida stood up careful not to disturb Chase's sleep. He didn't' seem to notice, he laid his head on the back of the couch, snoring slightly. No one had closed the curtains, and with the sun reaching into the cabin, it would make the vampires very uncomfortable, and with no rings or necklaces to protect them it would make them burn some. So she made her way to the window and closed the curtains.

There was the sound of a throat clearing, Elfrida looked behind her to find Cammi standing there with her arms crossed. Elfrida raised a questioning eyebrow, and Cammi answered to her silent question. "I figured someone had to stand guard, there's no telling if they decided to follow us."

"Makes sense." Elfrida said absently scratched her arm. Cammi nodded and it was quiet between them. They watched the sleeping bodies in the silence before Cammi broke the silence. "Do you want to take over on watch?"

"Sure, you must be tired." Elfrida said in sympathy. "You go and sleep, I'll be fine."

Cammi smiled and left to find a spot to sleep, Elfrida watched her leave. Then she left the cabin and started walking around. There was nothing like walking outside with the moon shining bright through the trees. With the peace and quiet, well, near quiet. She could hear crickets making their tones through the grass, and the feet of deer making their way through the woods.

Even though there was gates at the front of the school, they stopped almost immediately at the start of the woods. They wanted it to be easier for the werewolves to run in their wolf-form. Sometimes Elfrida would wonder what it would be like to transform into a wolf, to run wild in the forest, the thrill of the hunt as the sound of the smaller animals scrambling for shelter from their predators.

She breathed in deeply the smell of the clean air, it was almost as fresh as her home. The home she and her love had picked out. But then thoughts of another filled her mind. Elfrida had never thought she would ever have feelings for another guy, a guy here for a matter. She feels unfaithful for what she had done, guilty. And she should but why can't she get him out of her mind. She hadn't given her heart to him. Yes, she hadn't told the Master the three words, but she knew that he knew. He always knows. He always knows everything.

But then there was Chase. Chase, the guy, she never would have expected to have feelings for. A guy who's way too arrogant for his own good. The guy who is always trying to get reactions out of her. But what had happened at that party, she will never let it happen again. She knew what she was getting into with her love and she is not willing to let that be taken away from her.

She shook her head of these thoughts. She has a job to do. Elfrida walked a perimeter around the cabin for several hours, since there were no clocks around she didn't know the exact time but she figured in was around ten when someone came to take up guard duty. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. As according to the plan. She will just have to hope none of the Of The Woods would try to spy on them.

Elfrida went back inside to eat something. She found one of the guys, someone she didn't know, cooking some pancakes. I didn't know there was food here, she thought. There was already some finished so she took some along with some syrup. Elfrida had discovered that she liked pancakes, she never thought she would like any human food but she does.

She took her plate and sat on the floor since all other surfaces were occupied with either sleeping bodies or sitting bodies eating. Only a few of the werewolves were up. She barely knew any of them, all were friends with Akili, Cammi, Chase, and Cole's. Elfrida wished she had paid more attention to her classmates, but she hadn't.

Might as well start now, she thought, and started talking to the werewolf sitting near her, enjoying the company and the meal.
