Chapter 20

Emily

Emily was sitting on a bed of one of the students, curled up into herself. It was some girl named Cammi's room. She was the one that led her away from Adam's body. God, she couldn't believe that he was dead. She loved him. And this Cammi girl, she doesn't remember seeing her at that crazy meeting in the woods, but for all she knows she could be one of those crazies too.

God, she needs to talk to Elfrida, she'll know what to do. And with Adam dead....she choked on her tears trying to hold them down...no she can't think about it right now. Just then Emily heard a knock on the door. She unfolded her legs and walked over to the door, weary. She tentatively reached for the door and closed her hand on the door knob. When she opened it, she found two girls at the door, one was Cammi, and the other was a girl that looked very similar to her. She must be her twin.

Wait, she thought, they sort of look like Elfrida. They must be related. Wow, she's dumb, how could she not recognize that they looked alike. She focused back onto the sisters, and stepped back to let them in. Cammi smiled. "Hi, Emily. Thanks for letting us in. This is my sister Akili."

Akili gave her a friendly yet sad smile. "I'm so sorry for your loss Emily."

Emily nodded her thanks. They all stood in a circle, awkwardly looking from one another to around the room. None of them said anything. All three nervous to break the silence. Finally Cammi spoke. "Emily, I know this isn't a good time, but we need to know what you know."

"What I know about what?" Emily said, hoping to avoid what she knew they would ask.

"What you know about the boy's death? Do you know if he angered someone, or saw something he wasn't supposed to see?" Akili asked, looking hopeful for Emily's answers.

"Adam."

"What?" Akili asked confused.

Emily glared at her, tears threatening to consume her. "His n...name was Adam."

Akili's face was surprised and sad. "I am truly sorry, Emily."

"That may be....but I'm not telling you anything." Emily replied determinedly. "The only person that I will tell what had happened is your principle. What Adam and I and another saw. Ugh. God, I don't even want to think of it, it was absolute craziness. You people have crazy people here! And because of that! Because of that...." her voice broke"....Adam is dead. It's you people's fault that he's dead." she took a calming breath. "I will only tell it to your principle. Now..please...just go... go away."

Akili and Cammi could hear the defeat in her voice, but left as she had asked. Later, after Emily had taken a very long nap, she woke to hear knocking at the door again. It was night out, so she figured it was Cammi, wanting her room back. But instead she found Elfrida at the door.

Akili and Cammi had just gotten a door shut in their faces with solid thud. That door just happened to be Cammi's door to her room. Talk about ironic. To have your own door shut in your face, Akili shook her head.

Anyway, they were getting nowhere with Emily. Which Akili suspects is because they were being a bit insensitive to the fact that the poor girl had just lost a friend, or maybe a boyfriend. So they decided to go report back to the Headmistress and tell her that she's going to have to meet with her as soon as possible. So tonight.
