Chapter 23

Elfrida

Pain vibrated up and down her arm. There was nothing like being shot in the arm, nothing to compare it to from her world at least, well, maybe being stabbed with a sword. Damn it, it hurt like hell no matter what you compared it to. She hissed in pain as the needle Audrey was holding went into her skin once again, closing up the hole. "Oh be quiet you big baby. It will be gone in a minute." Audrey said keeping her attention on the wound.

She was right though, it would disappear with no trace in half an hour, but even with advanced healing it still hurt to get shot, and better to sew it up than wait possibly several more hours for it to go away. Sigh. Elfrida looked at the others in the room, both James and Victoria were looking worried. Well, James was trying not too, but it showed in his eyes. And Victoria.....well, Victoria was not used to this sort of thing. She still had a much more innocent mind compared to all the others. Elfrida and Audrey were far more used to getting hurt, but being shot, that's a first for Elfrida. And she doubts Audrey has been shot by a gun while she's been here.

When it became evident that she would be fin, James went busy snooping around her room, occasionally looking back at them on the bed. Elfrida was now wearing a sports bra and the same black leggings she'd been wearing under her dark cloak, and was propped up on a pillow with Audrey sitting on the edge. She had to take off her top to allow Audrey to take a look at the bullet wound and fix it up. The bullet had logged into her upper arm which then forced Audrey to reach in with her fingers to take it out. It was not fun. Luckily, it hadn't hit anything important although it wouldn't have mattered anyway because she would have healed eventually.

Elfrida would have left it alone after that but Audrey wanted to sew it up so that it would take less time to disappear. The entire time Audrey played operation on her arm, Elfrida gave Victoria an encouraging smile since she looked like she would be sick. Even then Victoria hovered above her and Audrey would then tell her to move because she was blocking her light. But Victoria ignored her.

"I'll be fine Victoria." Elfrida said even as she winced in pain.

Victoria didn't answer, only keeping her worried eyes on her.

"Finished." Audrey said, finally putting the needle down, cutting the string, and tying it up. Audrey went into Elfrida's bathroom to wash her hands of her blood, calling as she did so from. "Things are going to change after tonight, you know. They are going to come at us hard. For killing their headmistress and those two stupid humans."

"I know. But what choice did we have. Those humans would have ruined everything. You know the Master wants this school."

"But why does he want this school? He could take so many other schools from our own world." Audrey left the bathroom and was standing hand on her hips in the middle of the room.

"I don't really know the answer to that, all I know is that there's something in this school that he wants. He told me to find it." Elfrida said, feeling hopeless on the task considering she hasn't found it yet, she slumped slightly at the impossibility of the task. "Which I'm failing at, by the way, there are just so many hidden rooms, and yet none of them seem to take me to where I need to be. The Master won't take anything as a reason behind my failure. He's already warned me that I was taking too long, and that I was being sloppy for letting those two humans see us. You know what he will for sloppiness."

The only thing she did manage to do was find a passage that led her behind the recently deceased Headmistress's office, and kill said Headmistress. Maybe he will go easy on her for getting rid of this obstacle. After all that woman was starting to get too noisy in their business, pulling Elfrida from classes to 'talk' to her. To have a heart to heart over how she is hanging with the wrong crowd. Eflrida wanted to shout at her that she was with the right crowd, that it was her that was in the wrong one. Oh how she would love to rub it in their faces, all of their faces, that she had managed to strike a deal with their future ruler to save her family, to put them all ahead in the new era, to put herself in a powerful enough position.
