Chapter 20: Injured
The people of the Island are peaceful. Their ancestors once lived on Earth, and during the great Space Colony ages, they had found their home on this wet massive planet. They had been at war with the underwater colonies by default. Not wanting the violence, but having to ensure the safety of their heritage. A man called the Doctor and his fiery haired friend had offered to help, and they had been underwater for several hours.
Two native children, Papose and Marlin, were both leaning over the side of the dock, waiting for them to reemerge.
“You should go back to the hut.” Papose said to his younger brother Marlin.
“No way! I wan’t to be the one to bring the cheese back!”
“I think The Doctor should bring it back. If he does come back, he’s the one who saved it.”
“Well actually, I think the pretty white lady should bring it back. We can carry her!”
“Shut up.”
The two boys quarrel is silenced by the sound of the city train, wheezing along the track. Papose doesn’t turn to look at it. It was just a train. Suddenly he drops the coconut he had just picked up, nearly hitting it on his toes. The train had been out of order for nearly three months now.
The Tardis materializes only a few feet from the dock, and as it thuds into this existence, the doors are forced open by the sheer tons of water flying out into the ocean.
Papose and his brother had scaled a tree by the time the water hit them, and they clung on tight as the tsunami nearly steals all of the golden sand off the dock.
They laugh as the water flies out, slowly dwindling, until only a few drops trickle down the soaked sand.
Papose orders his brother to stay put, then slowly approaches the doors. He had seen the inside when they had left into the sea, but now he enters. And what he see’s, scars him for ages.
The heart of the TARDIS is sobbing, shuddering as water is shoved out by her air filters, finally emptying it from herself. Her contents were mostly saved by the many locked doors and a few watergates by the swimming pool, but the whole place is a mess.
The Doctor opens his eyes. His vision blurry, and a ringing filling his ears. He is eye level with the bottom of the console, and his face is nearly three inches from what looks like a dead rat.
He doesn’t have the strength to jump and run, so he takes everything he has to flip over onto his stomach.
He’s soggy, exhausted, and lacking oxygen. The TARDIS had finally emptied, and his head was throbbing from the lack of air. Every breath felt like his last.
He groans and tries to prop him self up in a push up, but collapses onto his chest.
“Amy?” He gasps out. His voice horse and shallow. The last thing he remembered was programing the coordinates, giving Amy the last head air bubble, then smacking in a flurry of water into the top glass case of the console and losing consciousness.
He tries once more to sit up, then finding it useless, tries to look around for her.
The doors to the TARDIS are open and a small face is peering in.
“Hi.” It says nervously.
He tries to respond, but the words slip from his lips and his eyes shut.
A small tap on his forehead makes him regain sight once more. The face is closer to him now, bending over him.
He finds the breath to say. “Hey. What’s your name?”
“Papose.”
He grins. “Nice to meet you. I’m The Doctor.”
The boy hushes him. “I know. I saw you when you came to the village and offered help. She told me to tell you to stay here, don’t move, and don’t fall asleep. I’m supposed to watch you when you woke up.”
“Who told you?”
“The girl with the red hair. She’s getting help now from my father the chief. Also thank you for bringing the cheese back. My dad will want to thank you in front of the village once your better, but I just wanted to say.”
“No problem. ‘s what I do.”
Papose grins. “Now just rest for a minute and DONT fall asleep. She should be back soon.”
But he can’t not fall asleep. He was just too tired, his eyelids too heavy, and the last thing he see’s before he blacks out is Amy’s feet rushing towards him, followed by the bare feet of the chief, and a gurney.
