"Mary?" I suddenly jumped at sound of Carl's voice coming from inside.

"Carl? What are you doing up?" I whisper shouted.

"I couldn't sleep... I wanted to talk to you anyway." Oh god.

He came and sat down on the curb where I was. He was just in his blue jersey top and jeans. For some odd reason, he was wearing different shoes.

"Um Carl?" He looked up, flicking his brunette hair out of the way. "Why are you wearing odd shoes?"

"Oh. I lost one to a walker." He laughed. "Can I talk to you?"

"Yeah sure, what's up?" I asked.

"How do you know Ollie?" He asked diligently.

"Me and him... We were a thing. A few years ago but things have changed. I hate him now."

"Oh okay. It's just the way he looks at you... I think he still likes you"

"Tough. That's never gonna happen." I chuckled.

We sat in silence for a few minutes until Carl decided to talk.

"This place is gonna be safe, right?"

"Alexandria? I hope so. I'm scared of losing people. Or people losing me."

"Well, I'm always here. And so is Noah. Tara. Maggie. I'm never gonna leave you." He smiled.

I hugged him. He hugged me back and stroked my hair.

"I like your hair." I blurted out before I could react. "I-I mean like-"

"I like yours too. It's short. I like it, keeps you safe."

"Thanks?"

"Take it as a compliment, Mary. I don't want to lose you. Not again."

I looked deep into his eyes and saw desperation and loneliness. It killed me to see anybody like this. Made to suffer. But I guess that's why we're here, exhibited on earth.

"I know." I said. "I don't want to lose you either."

"Mary I want you to know-" Carl started saying before Ollie walked into the room. I rolled my eyes as I got up to leave.

"Hey princess." Ollie said grabbing my arm. "Can I talk to you later?" You've got to be kidding me.

I scoffed and walked out the room.

"Take that as a yes?!" Ollie shouted.

I walked into the room where everyone was. I said good morning to everyone as Judith started crying. Rick got up to get her but of course he was struggling. I can tell he can't remember how to take care of a baby since Carl was little.

I rushed over to Rick and grabbed the crying baby and tried to calm her down. I rubbed her back in circles as she faintly got quieter.

By this point everyone was up.

~Ollie's POV~

Mary scoffed as she walked away. God she's so stubborn, I like it.

I walked over to Carl and sat down next to him. I've been meaning to have a chat with this guy.

"Hey Carl" I said politely.

"Hi Ollie... uh, what's up?"

"Just I wanted to talk to you about Mary. She's hot right?" I eagerly asked.

"Um, she's beautiful, yeah." He hesitated.

"I mean you don't think she's hot? Come on dude, you know what I'm on about."

"Okay, yeah sure."

"Good. You like her?"

"That's non of your business." He laughed as he got up to leave, I grabbed his wrist to stop him. "Let go."

"Stay away from Mary. She doesn't like you." I told him. I could hear the baby crying in the back ground and I knew how much it killed him not to handle her.

"You mean, you expect me to leave her alone? Again."

"Well that's your fault for talking to her in the first place, she doesn't like you. Stay away." I repeated, gritting my teeth.

"Whatever, man." He said walking away.

Good. Now for the talk with Mary.
