The sun shone through the patternied curtains as I opened my tired eyes. I gently took Carl's arm away from me, as he shuffled back into a comfortable position. I got up and went to the bathroom.
I stripped off my clothes and stepped into the vaguely warm shower. So many thoughts filled my head as I cleaned myself.
I'm sixteen. Wow. So much has happened in 6 years.
I've meet the man of my dreams. My soul mate.
My family is back together. Kind of.
I've met my new family.
Oh gosh I'm so old now.
I hate birthdays.
I towel dried my hair and got dressed into black ripped jeans and a long black top and black boots. Black is my happy color.
I left the bathroom when I was changed and whatever and checked on Carl. He was still sound asleep. I chuckled to myself and closed the door slightly, blocking out some light.
I trotted downstairs lazily, making sure I didn't make too much noise. I entered the kitchen and spotted Mason sitting at the dining room table with some cereal.
"Morning kid." I said, messing up his hair. He quickly fixed it and put his bowl in the sink.
"Happy Birthday Mary-!"
"Shush!" I said, putting my hands over his mouth. "I don't like birthdays. You know that, and be quiet because Carl's upstairs asleep."
"Oh right, well I still have something to give you." He mentioned, wrestling out of my grip. He raced over to the living room, grabbing what looked like a small book. "Here."
I looked through the small book and lots of my old life memories were stored in there. Photos, school projects, letters. All placed in one beautiful book.
"A memory book?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, Alex had some and I had some. Chris had some..."
I pulled him into me, squeezing hin slightly. "Thank you so much."

After breakfast I took Mason to school. Sam didn't go because of his dad being killed.
I feel so sorry for the Anderson family. I mean, sure their dad was an asshole but they loved him. Now he's gone.
I walked back to my house and to my surprise, Carl was actually awake.
"Morning Babe." I startled him, kissing him on the cheek.
"Morning Birthday girl." He smirked. How. Motherfucker.
"How did you know?"
"Alex swung by earlier and told me."
"Remind me to beat his ass later." I sighed. "I hate birthdays. They're useless."
"I guess so. But does it help that I got us something to do?"
"Like what, dumbass?"
"Go get your weapons and stuff and I'll meet you at the gates."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I stood waiting for Carl to meet me. God, how long does it take to get a couple of weapons?
After 20 minutes of waiting, Carl finally arrives. He starts climbing the wall before he even greets me. I smirk before climbing it too. A challenge, eh?
"I win." He laughs, helping me down from the wall.
"Will you win this though?" I ask, before running deeper into the woods.
"Slow down!" He shouts from behind me.
"I win." I cheekily laugh.
"This time only." He leans in to give me a quick kiss.
We wonder around the woods, occasionally flirting, kissing and laughing.
"So your 16 now?" He smirks.
"No Carl. I'm 2." I sarcastically say.
"Shut up! You act like a two year old." He said, dangling on a branch of a tree.
"Hey!" I laughed loudly, pushing him off the tree.
"What I was gonna say is that; don't you get a job now?"
"I guess so. Since Pete has gone they only have two other nurses. Rosita and Denise. But the thing is that I'm not ready. I can't save someone's life."
"You saved your own."~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~more wondering later~
"So you're telling me that you'd rather have Salsa all over you than ketchup?! What the heck Carl?! It's obviously ketchup!" I laugh.
"Er yeah duh. I'm a NORMAL human. Salsa is delicious."
"You're strange."
"You're beautiful. It's the same thing."
I love being in his company. At the moment we're sat in a large tree, simular to the one I met Lucy at. We're about a mile away from Alexandria. We've just been wondering around and it's been fabulous.
"Oh I have something to ask you." Carl said, climbing down from the tree. He rustled through his old bag and pulled out a small box. He got onto one knee, with a huge smile plastered onto his face.
"Carl... what are you doing?"
"I have a question." He opened the box and in it was a cute little ring. "We've been together for 5 months ish. I love you so god damn much. You make my day just by walking into a room. You are absolutely gorgeous. And I want to be with you forever. So, this is a promise ring. This promise ring means we'll be together and happy. Be together until the day we die. And I promise to run with you. I promise to protect you. And I promise to survive with you. So, will you accept this promise?" I nodded. He slipped the ring onto my finger, while tears slipped out of my eyes.
"I promise. I fucking promise." I say kissing him passionately. We were cut off by a twig snapping. I turned around, grabbing my knife. Carl did the same. Another twig snapped but it's a lot closer. I turn again and see thousands of walkers.
My eyes go wide and I tell Carl to run. We run back to Alexandria, watching out for nearby walkers. We both climb the wall in a hurry.
I head to Deanna's while Carl goes to his dad to warn them about the attacks.
"Deanna we have to act now! They're coming here sooner or later!" I explain to her. She understands and calls a meeting for tomorrow night.
What a great birthday surprise.
