I'm still buzzing with adrenaline through the rest of rehearsal. I hadn't actually planned to ask Phil out, but when Pj and Chris started joking about it, I thought "What's stopping me? I wanna go out with him!"
It was kind of a split second thing, but wow. Wow. I can't believe I did it.
As I'm walking with Phil after rehearsal, I realise something. I'm not sure how to say goodbye to him. Like before, it would just be like "Oh see you tomorrow" but now does it have to be different? Like cos w'ere ....dating?
"So, I guess, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yep."
We both go in for an awkward hug sort of thing and end up bumping shoulders and messing everything up horribly. I start laughing even though it's not really that funny, which sets Phil off until we're both just standing there, cracking up, awkwardness gone.
"What's with you two?" Jamie calls out as she passes by us, but neither of us has gained back the breath to form a sensible answer.
"Okay. Okay, I really have to go, I'm supposed to meet my parents for dinner. See you tomorrow, Phil!" I wave and set off towards the parking lot.
"Dan! Wait!" he calls out.
I turn.
"I was just thinking...and I realised...tomorrow's Saturday.." He grins.
"Oh my god I forgot! Okay I'll see you Monday then!"
All weekend, nothing feels 100% real. I still can't believe that Phil is my boyfriend, and as the weekend passes with us barely being in contact, I begin to convince myself that I made it all up in my head, and tomorrow morning I'll go back to school and Phil and I will be just friends.
Until late Sunday night my phone chimes.
Phil:
So I was wondering
Should we tell people about us?Oh my god, so it's not just a figment of my imagination!
Me:
Do you want to?Phil:
I don't know, do you?Me:
I don't know 😁
Maybe we don't tell them and we aren't like super obvious about it but we won't like lie or try to hide it eitherPhil:
Okay sounds good 😄
See you tomorrow!Me:
Goodnight PhilPhil:
Goodnite Dan!😊During the week, Phil and I go out after rehearsal as much as we can. Unfortunately, what with rehearsals ending so late, that's not very often.
But on Wednesday we get let out at about 6, so we get Chinese takeaway and eat in the park a few blocks away from our neighbourhoods. It's really nice to just sit there with him. After the sun set, we sit on the swings holding hands and watching the stars.
"Hey Dan, do you see those stars?"
"There's quite a lot of stars, Philip. "
"Yeah, but those in particular." He points at a clump of stars near a large tree.
"Yeah."
"Did you know I can read them?"
"Oh?"
"Yep! They say...hmm, they say you're nerd."
I swing sideways into him, laughing. As much as I hate corny romance shit, I'm really enjoying this.
On Friday, Mr. Vanderbilt delivers a rude awakening. "Alright guys, as of right now, we open in exactly two weeks!"
Guess who just finished opening night of Carnival?
