Setting up for the party was fairly easy. Jamie mainly just wanted people to help prep food and hang streamers and stuff. Dan and I are the tallest, so we got put on the streamer squad. Chris and PJ set up tables and stuff, and Saoirse flits back and forth from helping them, to helping Will, who's carving a pumpkin. Jamie and Danny are inside the house, finishing up the food, I think.
Decorating doesn't take too long, and before we know it, we're pretty much done, and it's 4:30.
"Hey, if any of you guys need to change into your costumes, there's two bathrooms down the hall, or you could use my room!" Jamie calls out.
"YES! Costume time!!" Dan shouts and punches the air. He grabs his bag and goes inside.
"Hey, Phil, can I do your makeup?" Jamie asks.
"Well I wasn't really planning on wearing any, but sure!"
"Great! I'm already doing Saoirse's and mine so this'll be easy. Come find me after you've got your costume on."
I hurry to change and meet Jamie in her living room/temporary makeup studio. She and Danny are sitting in front of a mirror. She's pinning a long black wig to her short green hair and he's putting on a fake moustache.
"One second..." Jamie says around the bobby pins in her mouth. "Okay!" She pats the wig then turns to me with a handful of brushes and a bowl of...blood?
"Um....?"
"Oh, don't worry." She laughs. It's not real. I made it this morning."
She motions to the chair next to her and I sit. She takes the largest brush and dips it into a compact of pale powder. She brushes it over my face and it makes my nose tickle really badly. I twitch and Danny cracks up. "You look like a rabbit!"
Jamie takes another brush and brushes dark powder under my eyes. She uses a little q-tip thing (?) to apply dark red lipstick.
I hear Dan come out of the bathroom as Jamie's putting the fake blood. I turn to see his costume, but Jamie turns my head back to her. "You can look in a second, but not till I'm done."
I can just barely see Dan's face out of the corner of my eye. He's talking to Chris and Pj on the couch. Is everything okay? He looks...angry? I guess?
"Perfect." Jamie murmurs, dotting on a last bit of fake blood. "Now go forth to your weeb, my little vampire." She nods toward Dan.
"Hey there, Light," I say, sitting next to Dan. "I like your costume."
"Thanks! I wasn't really sure anyone was going to recognise me. Jamie just interrupted my every sentence with 'anime trash!' after I told her what I was going as. " His face is more open and smiley now. "You look....dead. Good, but kinda dead."
"Thanks. Jamie's kind of a makeup magician, isn't she?"
"Definitely," Dan agrees, looking over to where she's now layering liquid latex and the rest of the fake blood on Will's face to simulate decaying zombie skin.
The doorbell rings, signaling either the first guest or a beginning of the trick-or-treaters.
"Shit!" Jamie yells, jumping up from her makeup table. "I'm not even in costume yet! Whoever it is, stall them!"
She runs towards her room, bumping into Danny. "Aah! No!We gotta go out together, I'll only be a minute!" She pushes him back into the hallway and disappears into her room. Danny sighs and calls out "Can someone go see who's at the door, please?"
"I've got it!" Saoirse answers. She emerges from her changing room dressed in a beautiful gown and floorlength cape, an ornate crown balanced on her dark curls.
We hear her exclaim over some kids costumes and hand them some candy before she shuts the door and rejoins us.
Jamie and Danny step out of the hallway dressed as Morticia and Gomez Addams. "Ta-daa!!" Jamie exclaimed and gives a little spin while Danny does jazz hands.
Their costumes are really good. Jamie's dress looks just like the one from the TV show and Danny's moustache looks almost real.
The doorbell rings again and Jamie runs off to answer it. A few more of the kids from the theater come in; Taj and Cara, Greta and two girls I recognise but don't know. More people trickle in until...well, I think the entire cast is here.
"Great, everyone's here!" Jamie says.
