I like dating Phil. He's pretty and his hands are really nice. Is that cheesy?
He texted me last week to say that Danny and Jamie are dating and let me just say: called it!! I fucking called it.
I mean so did everyone else though probably. Like, Danny and Jamie met a few years before high school, so they knew each other for a while before I got here and they've been dating since I met them. And in that 5 or 6 year period they've gone out like 4 or 5 times.Let's see, they were friends for a year and a half, but they didn't get to see each other often. Then they both went to work at this theatre summer camp thing the summer before year 10 and they got together right before the fall show opened. Then they broke up after a month and didn't really speak to each other until June. Then they both worked the summer camp again and got back together. Then they broke up in like December and only started speaking to each other because they got put in the same dance class. They started going out in May and then broke up in August, which made the fall show really awkward because they were both ignoring each other. But then they spent the entire cast party talking by themselves and ended up going out again. Then in February they broke up again because Jamie thought that Danny liked someone else.
(He did he ended up dating her after Jamie)
So now I guess this is their fifth time going out. At this point everyone just assumes they're either going out or not speaking at any given time. It's hard to keep track. They're kind of the favourite drama and gossip of the theatre crew. They've both been in theatre for ages, so they know everyone and everyone knows them and they've been in almost every production we've done, as well as some from outside of school.
I first met Jamie at the beginning of year 10 when I auditioned for the school musical, which was Oliver! I was only part of the ensemble, but it was still really fun. Jamie understudied as Nancy and I met Danny during rehearsals, as he was playing the Artful Dodger.
Right before the spring musical of year 11, our costumer retired. Jamie dropped out of the musical and took his place. She's been head of costumes ever since and last year, Vanderbilt made her 'Head of Backstage' so now she kind of oversees everything except the cast and the stagecrew.
Danny has been taking dance since he was four, I think, so he often works as an assistant choreographer in the school plays. He has his work cut out for him too; I can dance but I'm unbelievable clumsy, and Jamie has like zero sense of rhythm in dance.
As I walk to math class, Phil catches up to me. "Hey!"
"Hey!" He definitely makes math better.
But I feel like I don't get to see him so much anymore. I mean we have a couple classes together, which is nice, and I've convinced him to start cutting PE with me, so we get to spend time then, too. But it's like 'friend-time' then. We haven't really talked about it, but I think neither of us really want to come clean about our relationship to the whole school. I mean, in drama it's fine, I guess, but doing couple things out in the regular part of school seems...I dunno. Scary? I'm not sure what word I'm looking for.
And what with theatre and finals, we never have time to go get coffee anymore. And we work totally different parts of the theatre so we don't really get to see each other till, like, bows.
Which is really nice, don't get me wrong. I like being onstage with Phil. And I like going to the lobby with him after. We can hold hands and just look like we're bowing or keeping track of each other in the crowd, not like we're being Gay. Stealth dating, as Phil called it.
But it's all going by so quickly! Tonight's opening our second weekend, and after this it's only one more weekend. And then it's nothing till January, when Vanderbilt will announce the spring musical, which I am also very excited for. I wonder if Phil will help out on that one? It means more time together, which I'm all for, to be honest.
idk why but I kinda hate this chapter??? I mean no actually I rly like it, but I also feel like it's not rly relevant except to explain Jamie and Danny which is p important I guess. it also just sounds weird to me like idk maybe I was having writers block or smth.
I'm about to start closing weekend for the show I'm in and I'm so sad lmao
