I unlock the front door and we step inside. Dan pauses
at the threshold just to look around for a moment and I realise he's been to my house a number of times, but never really been inside.I toss my keys into a dish on the table before walking into the kitchen. "Are you hungry? Or do you want anything to drink?"
"No, thanks," he replies and as I turn back to look at him, I notice that he's shivering.
"Ohmygosh, Dan, I am so sorry, you're freezing! Here, if you don't mind, you can borrow some of my clothes and we can like warm yours up in the dryer or something."
"Are you sure? Thanks." Dan starts to take off his jacket and a small dusting of somehow unmelted snow falls to
the floor."Jesus, no wonder you're cold!" I exclaim, and he laughs. "Yeah, Jamie's pretty ruthless," he agrees.
He follows me upstairs and I grab a teeshirt and a pair of sweatpants for him to change into, before pointing him to the bathroom down the hall. While he changes in there, I stay in my room and put on some new clothes as well, as I can feel the remnants of Jamie's sneak attack melting into my collar.
Dan comes back in as I'm just pulling a teeshirt over my head. "Hey, I can put your clothes in the drier if you want," I offer.
"That'd be great, thanks," he replies.
When I come back, Dan's looking at the photos from my childhood on the shelf by my desk. "This is you, yeah?" he asks. "You were so cute! Well, you still are, actually," he adds.
I can see my cheeks turn pink in the reflection off the glad picture frames. I wrap my arms around him and kiss him on the cheek. I can feel Dan smiling as he turns around to kiss me back.
"Hi," I murmur against his lips.
"Hi," he replies, before kissing me again.
And then something changes, just barely, so slightly that I couldn't even tell you what it was, but all of a sudden our simple kiss is no longer simple and it really hasn't changed much, but it's deeper and more intense and my head is spinning and our lips aren't just touching, they're locked together perfectly and I'm so aware of everything: every place that touches as Dan and I are pressed against each other, precisely where his hands are and where mine are as well, the way he smells mixing with my fabric softener since he borrowed my clothes and the slight roughness where his lips are chapped.
We pull apart and "Woah," he says, and I know he felt it too.
"Woah," I agree and I kiss him softly, but just like before, suddenly everything's in HD, only this time we don't pull apart as the kiss deepens. I'm somehow hyperaware of everything, yet nothing really registers and so it's almost a surprise when I feel the wall pressing against my back and Dan pressing against my front.
I'm really not sure how much time has passed when my phone chirps.
Breaking apart from Dan, I check the screen and feel a slight twinge of anxiety when I see my mother's text.
"My parents are going to be home soon," I say softly.
"I should go," Dan says.
"What? Why?"
To my surprise, his cheeks flush slightly. "What are your parents going to think if they come home to and empty house except for their teenage son and his boyfriend, who've been alone all afternoon?"
"Oh. Right." It's never been an issue before. "But–"
"Besides, I bet my clothes are already dry. "
"But how will you get home?" I ask.
"It's a short walk."
As soon as he gets his clothes, Dan kisses me goodbye, but it's just a peck, and then he's gone and out the door.
