"I didn't know that we would be walking downtown. I mean, there's nothing really to do except go to concerts and basketball games at the Amway Center." I said as the night chill breezed past us. I shivered, but ignored the cold. I liked this way more instead of the gorging heat.
"You're cold." Joe said, starting to remove his jacket. I shook my head.
"No, we're not going to be one of those cliché couples where the guy puts the coat on the girl when she gets cold." I stated, although I secretly wanted the jacket because I was actually freezing half to death.
He continues to remove the jacket anyways. He drapes it over my shoulders, and I roll my eyes. "I believe we just turned into one of those couples." He said, smiling cheekily at me. I poked his cheek in annoyance.
"So, did you really thought this whole date through? I mean, I know Downtown Orlando more than you, and there's honestly not much to do." I stated, yet again.
"Hey, I used to live in Orlando too, you know?"
"Yeah, but that was seven years."
Joe shrugged. "Well, I'm just that kind of guy who goes with the flow."
"Yeah, I kinda already knew that." I said, looking around. I can see the SunTrust building way up above us that Margo and Quentin went to in Paper Towns. They would see everything and everyone from that view up at the very top floor at the conference room. I've been in that building before, only because Asa's mom works there, and she's invited me before. It's absolutely stunning inside.
Just as I looked back down, I saw an all-too familiar person, standing at an open bar. I swear, my heart stopped for a moment.
"Um, can we walk the other way?" I asked Joe, grasping his arm. He looked at me concerned.
"Why? There's a football game playing at the bar, I want to see who will win The World Cup." He said. But I turned us around.
"No, we can look later. Please, I don't want to-"
"Liana?"
Oh, no.
I slowly turned around and see him. For once in my life, I don't see him holding a beer in his hand. He was completely sober, and he looked a lot much older. He was growing a beard with white hair, like he has no time to shave.
"What do you want?" I asked, trying not to roll my eyes.
His eyes softened, which rarely happens. "I haven't seen you in three years, sweetie."
"Don't call me that!" I scolded.
"Listen, I know what I did was wrong. And I'm sorry about it. But I've been working again, and I'm starting to get back on track, I promise." He said, walking closer to me. I walked backwards. "Is that-" He suddenly got angry. "Is that Joseph Sugg? The guy that that got you pregnant in high school and then left?"
I cringed, and I grabbed Joe's hand. My dad hated Joe ever since I got pregnant. I nodded. "Yes."
He completely ignored me and walked towards Joe. "You little son of a-"
"Dad!" I said, blocking Joe from him. "It's okay, he's good, I swear! We were just on a date! He's a good person, he even gave me his jacket when I was cold!"
"Oh, yeah, bullshit!" He scolded at me. He pointed at Joe, who was terrified. "You might've been my daughter's best friend when you two were kids, but you'll always be the boy who screwed her over and ruined her life!" He said, yanking him from behind me.
