I Would Have Never Pictured My Life Like This

My ear were buzzing so I got up and headed to the door for backstage. When I passed by the stage, I looked up to see Zayn staring.

-          What? I said, coldly, even though I really didn’t mean it.

I wasn’t mad at Zayn. Not at all. I just didn’t want to make him think that I was 100% interested. I mean, I was but not as interested as I was for Luke. He brought his microphone to his mouth and that’s when I started to imagine the worst.

-          Callie, stay, please. He said, remaining his look on me.

The small crowd was going crazy. I could hear some «Who is she? » or «She’s lucky» but also some «Why her? ». One said «She’s ugly, look at me instead, love». A tear ran down my face as I looked at Zayn.

-          I don’t wanna do this, Zayn. I’m not ready for all of this.

-          I’d be there for you, Call. I wouldn’t let you deal with that alone. Look.

He turned around to face the audience.

-          I have a story to tell you, guys. He said. He went to Niall and whispered something to him. Niall then moved across the stage and disappeared of field of view.

Throughout his speech, Niall came to me down the stage.

-          Hey, Call. Do me a favour.

-          What’s up, Niall?

-          Zayn’s really into you. He’s not the dangerous bad boy who doesn’t care like he seems to be. I’ve rarely seen my mate like this and to be honest, you’re actually the first girl who approaches him without acting like a groupie or using him. His last girlfriend, Perrie, used him to help her band to get well-known. Since her, he hasn’t trusted girls, except you.

-          Well, what do you want me to do?

-          Give him a chance, please Callie.

-          But Niall! I like Luke. We kissed. I can’t just act like nothing happened and flirt with Zayn!

-          Do you like Zayn? He said, eying me.

-          I do but…ARRG!! Niall, I hate you.

-          Love you too, love, now listen. He said, pointing at Zayn.

I looked over at Zayn, who was talking to the fans.

-          It’s the story of a normal guy, from England. He used to be really shy and wouldn’t talk to girls or even to guys. He had few friends and no girlfriends. Actually, that guy was looking for a girl with a unique style but also a girl who would treat him like he’d deserve to be treated. One day, that guy took the guts to audition for a TV show. He was put in a band with four other amazing boys.

The crowd started to cheer, but Zayn didn’t stop.

-          His life has changed. He slowly abandoned the idea of finding a girl who’d treat him like a normal person. One day, he met a girl. She didn’t scream, she liked his music and she even backed off when he tried to kiss her. He said, laughing. I finally found the one and only who met all my criteria, guys. My last wish would be that my fans like her as much as I do.

Zayn looked at his feet as the crowd remained silence. He snapped his head up, waiting for someone to shout down something, but no. the fans kept looking.

-          I can tell from your expressions that you’re on my side? He said, grinning.

The crowd cheered again, giving Zayn some more confidence.

-          Can I introduce you guys to her? He said, making his way to my spot.

No way. I was not going to go on stage, in front of a two hundred screaming girls wanting my death. As soon as I saw Zayn in front of me, I felt a hand on my back and turned around. Mak and Mary were there.

-          You have nothing to lose, Callie. Give it a shot and if it doesn’t work, you’ll know it. Said Mary before she left.

-          I’m not gonna say the same thing as Mary, Callie. I mean, I’m Luke’s friend and I’m Luke’s best friend’s girl. I don’t want Luke to be hurt so just make up your mind as fast as you can. You have to make a choice because both guys obviously like you as hell and would do anything to make sure you’ll wait for them while they’re on tour.

Those last words torn my heart. I liked them both but I really wasn’t ready to have a long distance relationship. NOT.AT.ALL. but Zayn was waiting for me and I couldn’t let him fall. I took his hand and joined him on stage and turned back to whisper a «don’t worry» to Mak. On stage, I froze at the sight of the girls. They all applauded as Zayn put his arm around my waist. I leaned over to Zayn’s ear to say something loud enough so just him or the other members of the band you ear.

-          Don’t, please… I said.

-          What’s wrong? I like you, Callie, I swear.

-          I’m not ready for this, Zayn.

-          Aren’t you the girl who’s not afraid of anything? He said, grinning.

-          Usually. But now it’s different.

-          How is it different?

-          I can’t play with people’s feeling. Even less when I care about both boys.

-          Who’s the other? He said jealously. Luke?

-          Don’t take it that way. Zayn!

-          Leave. Leave please, Callie. The last thing I want is you to see me mad or you to be hurt.

I was actually scared. I left and went backstage. As soon as my first feet passed the curtains, I collapsed and sat in the corner, pressing my thighs on my body. Tears were streaming down my face. Why me? I mean, to make a short story, I’ve always wanted to have Zayn. I had posters in my room, I dreamt about having a relationship with him and I watched videos of him every day. But when I met Luke, everything felt right. He was sweet, cool, and cute. I liked him. Honestly, a year ago, I would never have pictured my lift like this. Never. Someone sat beside me so I looked up.
