MEMORIES OF HER
~
Jungkook's POV:
I LIFTED MYSELF OFF the ground, throwing the basketball and letting it slip out of my fingers. Once I landed back on the hardwood, maple court, the ball rolled around and off of the rim, falling to the floor and bouncing repeatedly to a stop. I groaned, frustrated at my practice so far. I sponged the droplets of perspiration rushing down the sides of my face with my lucky sweatband. Though it wasn't freshly white like before, I've been using it ever since I got it. Huh, (First Name) gave this to me, didn't she? I thought. No wonder why I still have this.
"Jungkook! Fighting!" I heard a high-pitched scream from the bleachers. My little 11-year-old self slowly turned his head around, continuing to dribble the ball towards our team's goal. There she was. She actually came. In one hand, she waved around a plastic light-up stick with colorful streamers flapping on the end, and in the other was a poster markered with the words, "정국 화이팅!"
Now, I was determined, and my mind drove straight into the game. There was 30 seconds on the clock, and I sprinted across the basketball court towards the goal. The sounds of shoes squeaking filled the whole arena as many pairs shuffle against the floor. I dodged opponents one by one, faking left and right as they attempt to snatch the basketball from my grasp. 20 seconds. I was almost there, only a few feet away. Just as I stepped over the free throw line, I clutched the ball in both my hands and loading my arms for the shot. 10 seconds. Then, I jumped, and I shot the ball out of my hands at an arc, hoping for a successful three-pointer. Soon enough, it fell right into the weaved rope of a basket, and the ear-piercing buzzer mightily wailed as the clock ran out.
That was it. The championship point. I looked back at (First Name), and her face lit up like a lightbulb. She was hopping up and down cheering her lungs out. My teammates rushed over to me and raised me up above them, yelling and cheering too. They threw me up in the air repeatedly, shouting my name. A wide teethed smile grew on my face, and I couldn't breathe due to how hard I was laughing.
"Jungkook!" (First Name) called from below our team huddle.
"Yah, Jungkook-ah! Go talk to your girlfriend!" one of them smirked, chuckling as the crowd dropped me back down onto my feet. As my team walked away, my face was left flushed in front of (First Name). She skipped towards me with a gleaming smile, swinging her arms as she leaped.
"You did so good!" she smiled, throwing her arms over my shoulders in an embrace. I wrapped my arms around her waist and rested my chin upon her shoulder, soon noticing that she stood on the tip of her toes to reach my tall height. Ugh, that's so cute.
"I'd have to thank you for it," I chuckled under my breath.
(First Name) pulled away, though we still had our arms loosely around eachother. She looked up to me innocently, and I lost myself in her (eye color) eyes. As the gym spotlights from the high ceiling above us shone into her eyes, the pair dazzled like freshly cut diamonds. It was simply mesmerizing. I felt entranced in her purity and beauty, but suddenly, (First Name) began bringing her face closer and closer to mine with closed eyes. Oh god, is she going to kiss me? What do I do? I clenched my eyes shut as well, and prepared my slightly puckered lips.
"Jungkook-ah!"
"Yah! Jungkook-ssi!"
Fuck, I was just getting to the good part.
"Yes, Hoseok hyung?" I answered, roughly wiping away the sweat dribbling off my face with the bottom of my plain, white shirt.
"You should go watch Taehyung and Jimin rehearse in the auditorium," he said, joining beside me.
I rolled my eyes, looking over to him. His cappuccino bangs stood up stiffly in a ponytail. I held in my laughter. "Why would I want to go see that emo boy who sits alone in his music booth all day?" I scoffed.
"Okay–first of all, Taehyung isn't emo, and it's not polite to talk about your hyung like that." Hoseok slapped the back of my head.
"Yah, that hurt!" I massaged the throbbing spot, scrunching my face in pain.
"(First Name) is there."
"Huh?" My eyes lit up.
"(First Name) is in the auditorium watching Taehyung and Jimin." Hoseok winked, and his eyes darted at the gymnasium doors then back to me. I received his hint instantly, and I dashed across the basketball court.
"Thanks hyung!" I yelled.
Heaving open the metal double doors, I made my way out of the gym and through the twists and turns of the halls. Beads of sweat began to stream down my face once more. I mopped them away with the back of my hand over and over. God, I hope this won't happen again. As I was rushing to the auditorium, my mind came about a dreadful memory from the past. Well, it was distressing for me, but not for the others involved. You see, the event happened right after Taehyung's piano recital just as everyone in the audience started to leave the concert hall.
"Taehyung oppa!" (First Name) called out.
"Hyung!" I shouted as well.
Taehyung was currently lost in the sea of people, probably stuck in the crowd. (First Name) and I sat on the carpeted floor against the curved wall of the elevated stage, waiting for our third musketeer. Actually, I'd say he's quite a stooge. As the young boy I am, I didn't realize this overwhelming anxiousness I felt around (First Name) until now. I peeked at her on my right out of the corner of my eyes. She sat with her legs straight out, picking at a few loose threads at the end of her sundress. Her head hung low, and a sulky expression plastered on her face.
"What's wrong?" I asked, scooting closer to her.
"I-I'm going t-to go find where T-Taehyung o-oppa is," (First Name) stuttered. She stood up, brushing away any unwanted wrinkles or folds of the bottom of her dress.
"W-Wait, I-I'll come with you." Before I could even pick myself off the floor, (First Name) had already darted up one of the aisles towards the concert hall double doors.
"Why are you running!?" I yelled.
"I need to tell Taehyung I love him!"
