Attending all his football games was another task part of my girlfriend duties that I had become so accustomed to. My family was always big on football, so being a football girlfriend was a lifestyle. A lifestyle that was going to take me a while to get used to no longer having. I enjoyed attending the games though and did not plan on stopping.
Rowan and Mateo had joined the team and their athletic ability blew all of us by surprise. They were amazing beyond words. Our school was always the school to watch out for, but others now did not stand a chance against us.
"Jay is having a small get together after the game. You down?" Renai held his coat that was wrapped around her. I kept quiet, keeping my eyes on the game.
It was ritual to head to Jay's house after every game. A small celebration with our social group. But the strength to be around Ryan was something I could not build up. It was exhausting having to sit with our group at lunch while pretending we were all okay. We weren't. What he did was wrong. Sides were starting to form whether everyone liked it or not. And I found no pleasure in associating myself with those who knew of Ryan's unfaithful act.
"I'll pass," I gave an easy answer.
My homework was piling and I found it more productive to spend my night studying. University was something my parents continuously shoved down my throat. The supposed only option after I graduate. Little did they know that despite having great grades, I hated everything to do with school and had no plans of pursuing it after high school. But they did not need to know that. It would only worry them. They wanted a plan, which was something I had not thought of yet.
"You've been a buzz kill lately," Hadlee shared her insensitive opinion. My boyfriend cheated on me on multiple different occasions. Not just with anyone, but my teacher. All while several guys at school, who claimed to be my friends, knew. He also tried to sleep with me while I was drunk, injured and said no. I was allowed to be a buzz kill. Especially while figuring out what I was supposed to do with the information I knew about Mateo.
"And you've been a bitch lately," I glanced at her shocked face.
Renai and I could argue like sisters. We were that close. But Hadlee and I never exchanged harsh words with each other. Of course we were close, but she was sensitive and honestly, so was I. The remarks were always different when coming from Renai.
"Fuck you," she obnoxiously laughed. I was going to ignore her, that was until she poured her ice cold gatorade all over me. A display for everyone on the bleachers to see right as the game was coming to end.
I wanted to cause scene. Shove her down these stairs and watch her tremble to the bottom like a snowball rolling down a hill. But it wasn't worth it. Hadlee loved drama and attention no matter who or how she got it. I was not going to give her that satisfaction.
My cheeks were filled with heat and I could've sworn people were seeing the steam shooting from my ears. I got to my car, removing my shirt that was slowly sticking to my skin. I was left in only my bra, but my appearance was the least of my worries. The only way I knew to channel my anger was through crying. If it wasn't screaming and tearing something apart, it was crying. Mateo approached and his face was concerning. He looked frustrated despite our team winning. He had no reason to be upset. Biting my tongue, I stopped the tears that were slowly forming. Please not here.
"Why the fuck would she do this to you?" His teeth chattered together. His anger replaced mine and his protective side was peaking out. Going into his bag, he removed a shirt to put on for me. His hands went under the shirt, unclipping my bra so I was no longer in wet clothes.
