abia kamin

My parents came home and I expected Luna to leave. As much as I love her, I was worried that she would accidentally slip up to my parents something about Mateo and I. But she hadn't left yet and I couldn't complain. She was teaching me magic. It was weird using these powers that I've had this entire time but was unaware of.

"Abia, I'm headed to a council meeting. Why don't you join me?" My father asked at the dinner table. My eyes gaped. Council meeting are closed meeting and only consist of six members. My attendance would be obvious and I'm not sure if it would be appreciated. But this seemed like a good chance to continue learning about the supernatural.

"Sure," I agreed, excited to hear what happens at these meetings. My father smiled and we continued our family dinner. Luna and I cleaned the tables and the dishes before my father and I headed out the house.

Quality time together isn't something we usually do. He's a doctor and his work schedule is demanding. Nonetheless, he still makes an effort. Especially with me being the last kid left in the house.

When we arrived at the home that the meeting was occurring at, I saw faces that I recognized. Many were my classmates parents and I wondered if their kids were aware that they were somehow supernatural. Most likely not. This town is far from supernatural and that's all because of this council. They surprisingly welcomed me with open arms. I hoped that despite my presence, they wouldn't hold back on the topics they planned to discuss.

"These past couple months have been strange to say the least," a woman spoke and I recognized her strawberry blond hair as the mother to Evan who I've known since kindergarten. He's one of the most bland people that I know. I wish they all had name tags for whether they were a vampire, werewolf or witch because my curiosity was through the roof.

"Very. I can't help but find things coincidental that things began spiralling after the Ardon's arrival in town," a man spoke. He seemed older and I didn't recognize him. He was bald with a salt and pepper beard and moustache.

They're all aware of the Ardon family and spoke about them like this wasn't their first time discussing them. I squirmed in my seat, wishing that I could tell them that the family wasn't a problem. But I was in no position to share my opinion.

"The Ardon's aren't a problem. They don't have intentions of causing trouble," Evan's mother defended them. She has a child. Unless she turned into a vampire after having Evan, it means she's definitely not one.

"Are you sure? I don't think it's fair to say that when my daughter attends the high school with both their sons," my father spoke up and my knee bounced up and down. It's like he knows about Mateo and I, but that's impossible. If he knew, half my coven would already be here burning all of his family.

"They know the risks. Your family is in no position to complain when there's already code that prohibits him from even thinking about being with her. What about my daughter? She attends the school too and she's also a witch. She doesn't practice magic and knows nothing about them. She's most vulnerable," the woman's voice was bitter. She wore huge glasses and her blonde hair was curly and created a mane around her face. I go to school with her daughter? Who is her daughter?

"Evelyn, I'm not going to tell you how to parent your own child, but maybe it's time you tell her," a man with red hair advised with a nurturing tone. "Push come to shove, she's still protected under the treaty."

There was back and forth argument. They weighed the pros and cons of their family residing here. My skin was crawling. I wanted to vomit at the possibility that his family may be forced out of this town all because of their history. From the sound of it, it had nothing to do with Vivienne and everything to do with Rowan and Mateo.
