abia kamin
Seniors every year always throw a party at this near by lake in town. Hosted by the football team and famously known for getting raided by the cops. The section of the lake they chose was secluded and known for being a great place to have a party. Or fuck.
I smiled, Renai going on her drunk tangent. I wanted to drink, but it was my turn to be the sober one at a party. Stick in hand with a marshmallow at the end, I slowly twirled it in the fire. Surrounding the bonfire were huge logs for sitting. Sober ones were seated at the fire eating, while the drunk ones were close by either playing beer pong on one of the tables, or dancing to the music that was being blasted.
"Jay was supposed to bring me water. But he disappeared," Renai pouted, in so many words asking me to do it for her. I didn't protest because I preferred her sober. So left her my marshmallow and got up to go to the cooler that was filled with drinks. I reached my hand into wet ice, bringing out a water bottle. Biting my lip, a hand went to the small of my back, pulling me into their hold. Only to be taken back that it was Ryan of all people.
"Ew. Don't fucking touch me," I pushed him away from me, being pulled back by the arm.
"I've been seeing you and Ardon getting close," his words were mushed together, his breath reeking of alcohol. Ryan is the angry, destructive drunk. It was best not to upset him.
"I would prefer if you didn't see me. Let me be invisible to you. That's clearly what I was when you were cheating on me," I looked up at him, resisting the urge to finally get my anger out by punching him across the face. His pretty, perfect face that always attracted girls despite him being tied down.
"It's hard not to see you, Abia. I honestly wish that things weren't this way. I fucking miss you." Biggest slap to my face like he expected to cheat on me and still have me want to be with him. He clearly lacked all respect for me. I couldn't believe that in his sick mind he was convincing himself that I was the reason we ended.
"I said it before, and don't make me fucking say it again. Stay the fuck away from me."
The leaves under my feet crunched as I made my way back to Renai who was no where to be seen. I told her to stay still yet she was gone.
"I need to get you outta here," Mateo appeared from nowhere. He held my waist, attempting to pull me but I stopped him when there were loud screams coming from several directions. People began running, as if they were running away from something.
"What's going on?" It was obvious that he knew what was happening.
"I can smell it. It's everywhere. It means they're here." Blood. I immediately knew he was talking about blood. Just when I opened my mouth to ask him something, I heard a familiar scream. Hadlee's. "Abia!" He followed behind me when I followed her scream. It was like a beacon and my body was somehow able to cancel out all the other screams and solely focus on hers.
I finally found her, laid on the dirt with blood gushing from her neck. It had been bitten, teeth marks seeped into her skin. Dropping to my knees, I held her head as her body remained almost paralyzed from the shock. To her this was out of the ordinary, but the idea of vampires biting into her neck and sucking her blood was not a new concept to me.
"M-Mateo. Mateo, she's...oh my god," I applied pressure onto her neck, doing my best not to panic. But I was. Especially when drunk Renai was able to find her way over here. She had dodged the other bodies on the ground, freezing when she saw Hadlee.
"Abia, you need to go."
Mateo was calm. Scarily calm, reminding me that the site of humans dying from a vampire bite was something normal to him. Something he'd been at fault for doing time and time again.
