Waking up and remembering what you'll be doing today is such a weird experience. If you are doing nothing today and hanging out, you could be so happy. Or if you have a job interview today, you could get all nervous. But that's not the case for me. I have a date today and I don't know how to feel. I'm nervous, happy, anxious, scared, and excited all at once.
Something could go wrong, something could go right. Anything is possible but it's a thrill. You don't know what could happen next. One minute we're having fun and the next minute there's a zombie apocalypse.
I'm just going to skip over the part of picking up Hayden and how we got there. I'll just go straight to the date part. So, it went well at first. We're currently sitting across from each other at the cafe we met at.
It's awkward, if I'm being honest. We're not speaking. We haven't spoken since I picked her up. Last word I said was, "Coffee or italian?". Now I see that those words were one of the most idiotic things I have ever said.
"So, how've you been?" she asks. "I've been okay. How about you?" I ask. She nods and shrugs. I nod back. "Where are those freaking sandwiches?" she looks back at the register. I shrug, knowing she didn't see me.
"Really? You have nothing to say to her?" somebody laughs beside me. I look down next to me to see Hanna kneeling. My eyes widen. This can't be happening again. I thought she left for good! "I know what you're thinking. How am I here, right? You can't get rid of me that easy, Michael" she laughed. "Leave" I whisper. "What was that?" Hayden turned back. "Oh, nothing" I wave it off. She nods and looks down at her lap. "Talk to her" Hanna whispers in my ear before disappearing.
These hallucinations are getting worse. Should I go to a therapist? "Hayden?" I called out. She snaps her head up at me. "Yes?" she asks. "What do you think about my friends?" I chuckle. "They're a bit weird. But I'd like to become friends with them" she smirks.
"Yeah, they are weird" I laugh. Finally, our orders came. "Finally" Hayden breaths out.
We ate then started to talk again. The conversation went from the food here to ex girlfriends and boyfriends. "Yeah mine were jerks" she finishes before taking a long sip of her iced coffee. "Me too" I instantly think about Hanna. How she hurt me.
"Hopefully I'm not like Hanna" Hayden chimed in. "What do you mean?" I asked in a defensive tone. "The things you and your friends tell me, she seems like a careless jerk" she plays with the coffee cup. "Yeah, she was" I laugh. "But I loved her through her jerkiness" I continued.
"If I was worse than Hanna, would you still love me?" she looked up at me through her long eyelashes. "Depends" I cross my legs. "Depends on what?"
"Depends on if you'll love me back" I say like it was the most obvious thing ever.
After finishing up our coffees, I brought her home.
"I had fun, Michael" she said after reaching her door. "Really? Even with the silence in the beginning?" I ask sarcastically. She nods. "Yeah. Even with the silence. I've come to learn that I like being with you even without words"
"You stole the words out of my mouth" I shuffle closer to her. "Oh really?" she swallowed the lump in her throat, as if she was nervous. Hayden. Nervous?
"Really"
"Well goodbye Michael Clifford. I'll see you soon" she kisses my cheek and that turned into one of those omg moments.
Hayden leaves me speechless.
When I get home, I scream. I screamed because I was happy. After months of torture and depression, I finally got what I wanted.
"Had fun?" that all too familiar voice asks. "Actually, yes" I scoff. "You thought about me" Hanna stands up and starts her way towards me.
"No, I didn't" I lie. "Yeah, you did" she fights back. "Leave, Hanna. I don't need you anymore" I snap. "I don't need you anymore" she mocks.
"I said leave! All you have done is cause pain! I want something new!" I screamed.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm very sure"
"Okay then. Bye Michael" and she was gone.
Everything is over. Hanna is gone, Hayden is here. I'm going to start a new beginning.
Maybe I was too late with Hanna, but never again.
