It has been a week since the last time I have seen Hanna. Last time I saw her, I was dropping her off at her house when she kissed my cheek. Never heard from her since.
I'm on my way to school, scared of my exam today.
As I enter the building, a few friends say hello to me along with some girls I don't know.
Then there she is, standing in front of a locker. As she flips her hair, she turns around and catches my eye.
"Hanna?" I ask for reassurance as I walk up to her. "Hey" she smiles slightly. "I haven't heard from you since I dropped you off" I say, getting a strange look from her.
"I was busy" she just shrugs and walks away. I follow. "Are you okay?" I ask quietly, fixing my backpack on my shoulders. "I'm fine, Michael. Wanna skip some classes?" she asks with a mischievous smirk.
I do have the exam first period, so I'd like to skip it. "Yes please" I practically beg. She laughs and we escape to the exit without anybody seeing us.
We make sure, again, that nobody saw us before we close the door. When I turn back to Hanna, I see her pulling out a pack of cigarettes. "Why do you have those" I plainly say, not too happy about this.
We walk away towards the back of the school where nobody could catch us. "They help with my stress" she says with a shrug. "I don't like those, Hanna. They can cause problems with your body" I say, looking her up and down. "I've been smoking since my Sophmore year. I'm a Senior now. Do I look bad or something?" she asks quite defensively. "No, no, no. You look good" I stammer and she nods pleasantly.
"You're beautiful, even" I say, regretting it because I knew the atmosphere would become awkward. "Thanks" she flicks her cigarette and some ash falls to the floor. "No problem" I laugh nervously.
"So what are you good at?" I ask, trying to change the subject. She shrugs, "I like to sing"
"Sing something for me, then" I suggest. Hanna sits down while taking a drag and I do the same. "What would you like me to sing?" she asks. "Do you know The 1975?" she asks suddenly. I shake my head and she gasps. "I'll sing you Chocolate by them" she clears her throat and gets ready, putting out her cigarette.
"Hey now call it a split 'cause you know that you will. Oh you bite your friends like chocolate. You say, we'll go where nobody knows, with guns hidden under our petticoat. No we're never gunna' quit it. No we're never gunna' quit it no" she finishes, looking down at the ground, playing with the grass.
"You're amazing" I say in awe. "Thank you" she giggles. "You are so freaking amazing" I say again, a little bit more serious. "No, you are" she says with a laugh.

After school, I brought Hanna over to my house. We didn't go inside. We just jumped over the fence and went into my backyard.
I walk over to my hammock with her and I lay down. She lays down beside me. "What's your plans after high school?" she asks, looking over at me. "I don't know. I think I want to sing. Like play electric guitar. Yeah, that'd be cool" and she giggles.
"What?"
"You're just so cute" she laughs again, even harder. "Okay, Hanna" I chuckle.
"I would also like a wife and a couple kids. Oh! And a dog. A dog named RJ" she giggles at my words. "How about you?" I ask.
"I'd like to travel the world with someone close to me"
"That sounds awesome"
"Yeah"
I then notice that it's getting darker. That means that the stars will soon come out. I love the stars.
"So you don't have a girlfriend?" she asks. "I don't, why?"
"Just taking notes. In case I start falling for you and I would like to be your's one day" she says, without hesitation. I like how she's comfortable with saying anything in front of me and to me. It's nice that she's not hiding behind this wall that I can't break down. I think I already like her.
"Are you single?" I ask. "Yes, why?" she asks. "Just taking notice" we laugh.
"Can I ask you something, Hanna?"
"Yeah. You can ask me anything"
"Why were you ignoring me this past week?" I ask, turning my head to see her. "Michael" she sighs.
"Yes?"
"I need to tell you something" she starts off, sitting up in the hammock, swinging her legs off it. I follow her actions. "What is it?"
"I cried the night you dropped me off at my house. I cried when you left, when I got inside my house. I cried" she wipes her eyes with her sweatshirt sleeve.
"Why did you cry?" I ask quietly, hesitating on holding her hand. I don't want to mess anything up. "Because...I don't know exactly why. I guess I was scared"
"Scared of what?" I ask, not sure of what she would be scared of. "I was scared you wouldn't like me when you found out about me..." she trails off, looking up to the sky like there is something interesting up there.
"What would I need to know? I already know what I need to know, Hanna"
"I'm bipolar" she blurts out suddenly, with her voice raised louder than usual.
"Okay" I say bluntly. I really don't care if she's bipolar. I like her for who she is. I wouldn't judge her if she haf anything wrong with her. She's still perfect to me.
"Are you okay with it?" she asks, pushing back a strand of hair behind her ear. "Of course I am. Why wouldn't I?"
"Because I have something wrong with me"
"It's just a flaw. Everyone has one" I shrug.
"You're amazing, did you know that?" she asks with some giggles. "No. But it'd be nice if you reminded me like every day" we laugh.
"I'll do exactly that" she says, giggling.
