One month. One month of torture. One month of crying and complaining and hurting. One month has passed and it feels like she died just yesterday. I didn't know it could hurt this much.
Through all of this pain, Hanna's dad actually had time to plan a funeral for her. And finally, the day has come to cry even more with a large group of people. Right now, Hanna's friends and family seem like my only family right now. Luke and Ashton has been there for me but it's not the same. They aren't my parents. My dad is in jail, nobody has bailed him out. My mom is still gone. I don't know where she is off to. It's scary to believe she actually left me. She's always there for me. When I'm hurting, when I'm sad. But when I needed her the most, she's isn't here. She's not here holding me and telling that things are going to be alright even though they aren't.
Luke's car honked outside so I grabbed my things and rushed out the door. The ride to the church was quiet and the atmosphere was upsetting. When Luke pulled into the church, he got out immediately. He was probably in a rush because he didn't want to be in there. It was too depressing. I don't blame him.
I got out as well when I saw Luke waiting at the doors for me. My eyes scanned the church before going in, then I glanced everywhere outside. Just to make sure everything is perfect. "Is everything in order? Does it seem like it?" I asked quickly. "Mikey, it looks fine. Everything looks perfect" Luke mumbled. For some reason I didn't believe him. So I kept glancing everywhere, giving myself a headache. "Mikey, can I ask you something?" he asked. I turned to him and nodded with a frown. "Why do you want this to be perfect? I would have thought that you wouldn't want to come" Luke shrugged and furrowed his eyebrows. I know that Luke wouldn't understand this. I know he's trying to. Hopefully he wouldn't have to understand.
"I think that everyone should have a great funeral. Especially Hanna" and with that, I walked inside with Luke on my tail.
A few minutes later, everyone else arrived. Ashton came in and sat down beside me with a sad expression. Then May came in and sat with Luke. Then the devil came in. Calum stumbled in with a black eye and tissues.
The priest gave his speech while I drowned out his voice and stared blankly at my enemy, Calum.
Then he called up Ashton to give his eulogy. I turned back, then to hear it.
"Hanna was this brave and amazing girl..." he went on and on. It was a long speech and shared some memories between them. And then Luke was up.
"I hadn't known Hanna all too well but we were friends. I know that she was the right one for Michael, though. They loved each other so much and I didn't know that two people can love one another so greatly. Hanna will always live on in our memories. I'll never forget her and I know Michael won't either"
Then Hanna's dad stood up at the stand and gave his. He shared a lot of memories of when she was little, showed a clip of old pictures and was off crying with a bottle of liquor. Someone went after him, though.
And finally, after an hour of eulogies, I was up.
I stood by her casket for a little bit. I reached down and kissed it. "I love you so much, Hanna" I whispered. Then I took a short walk to the stand and started to speak.
"Hanna Monteiro was so confident. She was brave, beautiful, funny and all around crazy. I think that's what I loved mostly about her. She drove me mad sometimes and that was okay. We got into our usual fights but then we were okay in the end. She always made me feel better. I gave her my heart and she gave me hers. And then everything ended. All of the pain came and the tears. I wanted to feel nothing but I felt everything. I couldn't bare it and I still can't. It's funny how much you can love somebody even when they hurt you" I paused to turn towards the closed casket. "I love you, Hanna. And I will never stop loving you. You might be dead in the real world. But you're not dead in my heart" tears slid down my cheeks and I know I wouldn't be able to stop it.
I walked down the aisle, past the crying family members and friends and almost exited the church when I heard his voice. "Hanna was a jerk! She never cared about you, Michael!" I snapped my head in his direction. "Get down from there, Calum!" I yelled back. "If she cared about you so much, then why did she make out with me?! Why did she come to my door every night when you two got into a fight?! Who's baby was she carrying?! Mine! Not yours!" he laughed like this was the most funniest thing in the world. I did not find this funny. But what did he just say?
"Excuse me?" I asked quietly. "You heard me" he cockily smirked. Anger rose inside of me and all of a sudden, I was lurching towards the stage. I was about to punch Calum when Luke stopped me. "Stop!" Luke yelled. "Are you drunk or something?" Luke asked Calum. "I hope so" Calum shrugged and smiled.
"She loved me. Not you, buddy" Calum pulled out a tiny bottle of alcohol and took a swing.
