Chapter Six - TOWARDS THE SUN

"Turn your face towards the sun
Let the shadows fall behind you Don't look back, just carry on
And the shadows will never find you"

Towards the sun - Rihanna

Saturday came and after not talking to Blake Thomas since the bathtub conversation, Sophie didn't know if he was remembering he invited her to his soccer game. Although the ticket had arrived at her house the previous day as he said it would.

She was trying to find the proper outfit to wear when her phone rang and she jumped in surprise.

Looking at the caller ID she knew it was her partner in the publicity company, Mike Brandon. "Hey Mike." She answered the phone glad he called because she just remembered she needed to tell him something.

"Hi Sophie, how are you today?" Mike asked as polite as always. This man was a true gentlemen.

"I'm doing fine so far, thank you." She asked. "By the way, I found a very talented guitar player here in the city. I think he could do fine if one of us took him in."

"Sure, Sophie. If you say he's good I believe you. Send him in next week and we'll talk." Mike gave her the green light and she smiled. Although they shared the ownership of the company, Sophie didn't like being in control of everything so she only had Brie Williams as a client, also because she was her manager, and she would help with other departments but not closely. Mark dealt with all the boring stuff. "So, I called you to remind you of our meeting on Monday..."

"Sure! At 10am, right?" Sophie confirmed it while still looking at her wardrobe in search for the perfect outfit.

"Yeap." Mike told her. "Anyways, if you are free after the meeting and want to have lunch with me, that would be great too."

Sophia should have imagined this was what Mike wanted to talk to her. Since he broke up with his college girlfriend a year ago he has been asking her out in the most subtle ways and she always tried to send him off politely and just as subtle. He is a friend, after all. And most importantly, her partner in business. It couldn't happen.

"Oh, I'm really sorry Mike, I have yoga at lunch time on Monday. We can talk in the office..."She tried sounding like she didn't know his intentions and hoped it worked.

"Oh, I forgot... It's fine. Maybe another time." He told her in disappointment and then he said goodbye.

Ending the call, Sophie found a new Calvin Klein jeans she got as a gift from the store and put them on. It was dark blue and although it was basic she was pretty satisfied. Then she got a white tank top and a dark red Zara blazer. Then she put black flats and wore a delicate silver necklace.

That was it. Her hair was natural and she applied minimal makeup.

Getting her ticket for the match and her purse she headed off, hoping to have a good time.

In the cab drive there Sophie started to wonder if this going on today was a date.

Was it?

He never mentioned asking her out. Sure he invited her to have dinner later but never mentioned a date. Maybe they would go out with his fellow mates to a restaurant or grab a sandwich near the stadium.

Why was Sophie so bad at this?

Blake Thomas wanted to get to know her. That he said. But what did it mean exactly?
