Chapter Fourteen - Close

"Ain't going backwards, won't ask for space
Cause space is just a word
Made up by someone who's afraid to get too
Close"

Close - Nick Jonas feat Tove Lo

Sophia was watching Netflix on Sunday afternoon in her house with Blake when her cellphone rang. It was her mother calling.

"Sophia, what have you been up to?" Her mother asked and Soph was confused at the question.

"What do you mean, mother? I'm at home." She answered.

"Why do I keep receiving messages from my friends telling me you were on some tabloid magazine?" Mrs. Klein questioned and Sophia bit her lip. She hasn't told her mom or her sister about Blake. She didn't even think that they could hear about the tabloid.

"That was some misunderstanding. You can't believe everything in the magazines." Sophie lied. She didn't want to talk to her mother about her relationship with Blake right now.

He looked at her with a questioning look, obviously paying attention at what she had just said.

"Simone sent me a picture of you and some soccer player, Sophia. You were clearly together. The magazine can't make that up." Her mother reasoned in a stern tone.

"Yes I was with him. I met him at an Award Show. That's all." Sophie told her mom trying not to give many details. It has passed a bit more than two months since her and Blake had started going out, if she counted the first night on the rooftop as their first date. But even so, she felt like it wasn't time to share this information with her family. Especially when her sister's wedding was getting close. Her sister would definitely think she was trying to steal attention by dating someone sort of famous.

"So it was a fling? You should be more like your sister, you know? Settle down with a decent guy. Not just fool around like you do. New York and this job of yours changed you..." The lecture started and continued for a few moments before Sophie stopped paying attention. She loved her mom, of course she did. But sometimes she could be a pain in the ass too.

"Mom, I really have to go. I've just made lunch and my food is getting cold." She lied.

"Since when do you know how to cook?"

"I've been learning some recipes on internet." She lied once more and heard Blake silently laugh beside her, obviously catching her lie.

"Oh... finally." Mom said in a happier tone. "In this case, goodbye dear."

"Bye mom! Love you."

Sophie hang up and Blake started laughing out loud as she looked impatient at him.

"I assume your mother just questioned you about us?" He asked and Sophie grunted.

"Her friend sent her the picture of us on that gossip magazine." Sophie explained and Blake raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"Sneaky women, huh?"

"Tell me about it. She lectured me about how I should settle down with a decent guy and not some prick who will use and dump me after." Sophie mimicked her mother's voice making Blake laugh even harder.

"I really need to meet your mom if she makes you so irritated." Blake Thomas stated and Sophie showed him her tongue, just like a 5 year old would.

"You're having fun, aren't you?"

"You're sexy when you're pissed." He said, kissing the tip of her nose.

"Keep kissing me and I won't be pissed anymore." She teased him, kissing his cheek this time.

"First, one question." Blake put a finger on her lips, keeping her mouth at a close distance. "Why didn't you just tell your mother you and I are together?"

Sophie took a deep breath before answering. "Because I know my mother and I also know my sister. Mom would make a huge deal out of it and Melody would flip out and say I'm stealing attention from her wedding." She explained and Blake's expression softened.

"So I have nothing to do with the reason, right?" He asked and Sophie smiled at him.

"Why? Did tou think I was ashamed of being related to you?" She asked just to provoke him a little bit.

"For a moment, maybe."

She kissed his lips lightly before placing her hand around his neck, pulling him closer.

"Just to clear out, then..." Blake started talking again.

"You're so talkative today." Sophie stated. She really wanted to make out with him right now. Not talk. Since the first night they slept together at his apartment they've gotten much closer. It's passed a few weeks since that night and they have been switching from his place to hers each night Blake is in town.

"I don't know if I made it clear enough... but we ARE together, okay? So consider yourself settled down. I'm not letting you go." Blake said, whispering on her ear the last sentence.

"I wasn't expecting you to." Sophie told him and then it was his time to kiss her senseless.
