Chapter Twenty One - LET IT GO
"Now we're sleeping at the edge
Holding something we don't need
All this delusion in our heads
Is going to bring us to our knees"James Bay
1 MONTH LATER
Sophie was now in Chicago, touring for the past month with Brie and working the hardest she has ever worked in her life. Her day consisted of focusing all her energy on Brie and the concerts. All that work had its ups and downs. The good part was that she didn't have time to think about the whole 'Blake moving overseas' situation.
Blake was now spending two weeks in England to meet the team's directors, go through exams and sign the contracts. Since the night he told Sophie about the proposition they haven't really discussed it anymore. It was like both of them were avoiding talking, as if this way they wouldn't have to decide what to do with their relationship.
Sophie couldn't help think about it when she got a break, though. Blake would be in England, playing with the best, living like the successful man he was and deserved to be. She knew women would throw themselves over him. And they weren't to be blamed, he was awesome. Meanwhile she would stay in New York, or on tour with Brie. Her work never stopped. They would be in different time zones. Too busy to talk everyday. Too far away to feel close. He wouldn't be able to come see her. She wouldn't be able to go there many times to visit him. They would fight over silly stuff like one or the other not picking up the phone.
They would eventually drift apart from each other. That was certain. Sophie couldn't see a way out of this. She would never ask him to stay. She knew how much this meant to him.
It was his dream.
And all she wanted most in her life was to see him happy.
She knew she had to end it, but didn't know how.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" James, Brie's makeup artist asked Sophie as they ate dinner together in the hotel's restaurant.
"Blake..." She admitted. In the past month on tour, spending almost 24 hours a day with the crew, Sophie had become close to them and James had become a great friend.
"You have to talk to him about it..." He said in his calm voice.
James was a 29 year old make up artist who happened to be handsome looking and, unfortunately to the female population, gay.
"We've been talking over the phone and FaceTime every couple of days. He'll be back in 3 days but I won't be in New York for another month and by then he will be moving to England already." Sophie didn't mean to say all that but James seemed to understand and took her hand in his.
"You love each other. There's always a way." He told her and even though she didn't believe it, she thanked him and excused herself from the table.

That night after the show Sophie went to her room holding her shoes on her hand, walking barefoot on the hotel's lobby.
She was so tired she was almost collapsing on the floor as she opened the door to her room.
But the surprise standing inside was more than enough to wake her up."You have no idea the trouble it was for me to convince the manager to let me get in here." Blake was there. In jeans and a black t-shirt as usual. Sitting on the edge of the bed, as if he was eagerly waiting for Sophie to arrive. He looked great. Tired, but as handsome as she remembered.
"You... you're supposed to be in England." That was the first thing Sophie was able to say.
"You're not gonna give me a welcoming kiss?" He joked and for the first time tonight she smiled.
He got up from the bed and walked towards her, giving her a light peck on the lips. "You and this crazy habit of walking barefoot."
"I missed you." Sophie whispered to him as she hugged him tight. She had a feeling this was going to be the last time.
"I missed you too. That's why I came back 3 days earlier . Rescheduled my meeting for the next month. It was just paperwork anyway." He explained, not letting her go from his arms.
"Blake..." Soph started saying and froze for a moment.
"Don't." It was as if he knew what she was thinking. "I don't want to hear what you're gonna say."
"We have to..." She tried again.
"We don't."
"We can't be..." By this time there were tears on her eyes and she knew she didn't make any sense but she couldn't take it anymore.
"Why? I love you. You love me." Blake argued as they stood still in the same spot, Sophie with her head rested on his chest, not looking up, with her arms wrapped around him.
"That's why." She told him. "I love you too much to keep you chained."
There was a minute of silence. It felt like eternity.
"Do you want me to leave?" Blake said, distancing himself from her. He could see the tears falling from her eyes.
"Could you stay? Just for the night." She knew it was too much to ask but she did it anyways.
"If you want." He answered and she nodded.
They didn't say another word for the rest of the night. Just layed together, cuddling. Neither one of them could sleep.
It had come the time to let it go. And it hurt. More than Sophie could ever imagine it would.
