Chapter Eighteen - Make You Misse Me

"Girl, I'm gonna make you miss me
Make you wish that you were sleeping in my shirt
Lie bout my jacket, and tell everyone it's yours
When your phone rings after midnight and you're thinking maybe it's me
I'm gonna make you miss me."

Make you miss me - Sam Hunt

Blake opened his eyes and was hit with the image of Sophie lying beside him, still asleep. He checked the hour on his cellphone. 5:03am. Soon it would be time to get up.

Usually he would be excited to get up in the morning and start his daily practice. But having Sophie on his bed nearly every night was making him lazy. How could he leave her looking so cute and innocent?

He rested his head on the pillow, waiting for the minutes to pass before he got up. His mind went back to the weekend they had in Miami. The wedding, the time they spent on the beach, on the hotel room. The lunch with his family...

Blake's mom adored Sophie. He even  began to think she liked her better than she likes him. The two women instantly clicked. They talked about all of his mother's CD collection and also about him. Melanie was ecstatic to meet Sophie. But then, who wouldn't?

It wasn't different with Mr. Thomas. Sophie spent half of the time arguing with him about football, discussing who was better: Peyton Manning or Tom Brady? Usually Blake's father would get angry that someone didn't agree with him when it came to football, but he seemed to respect Sophie for her opinions and honesty.

The verdict was given: Blake's family loved Sophie.

"Hey, good morning." Sophie said in a groggy voice.

"Good morning, Soph." Blake answered placing a kiss on her temple.

"Is it late?" She asked.

"We still have a few minutes." He told her and lied on his side so he could pull her closer to him, spooning her.

"Where's your game this week?" She asked, knowing he would be travelling but not remembering where to.

"LA. I'll go tomorrow and will be back on friday." He explained and she nodded. It was getting harder to go to sleep without him by her side. His scent, his presence, even his deep breathing while sleeping calmed her and lulled her to sleep.

But this week it would be good not to have a distraction. The tour started in 10 days and she was loaded with work to do and meetings to attend. Besides, Brie was exploding with anxiety and sure needed Sophie to calm her down and assure everything would be fine.

"You can stay here while I'm gone if you want." Blake stated. He half wished she would agree. It would be nice to know she was keeping his bed warm for him while he was gone.

"I'm not even sure I'll be getting much sleep this week, with everything I still have to do for Brie's tour." Sophie said, her eyes still closed, enjoying the remaining moments of being on Blake's arm.

"It's all gonna be fine. And when the championship is over, I'll go visit you on the road." Blake kissed Sophie's cheek before slowly getting up from the bed. "But right now, I have to get ready to go."

"So you're really going on tour with us during your vacation time?" Sophia smiled at the idea.

"If you let me tag along. Sure." Blake shrugged. "Now what do you think we take a shower together?" He picked Sophie from the bed and carried her all the way to the bathroom with no objections from her part.

"Anxiety is killing me, Soph!" Brie let out a long breath, then focused on the big bowl of spaghetti in front of her.

As usual Brie had dragged Sophie to her favorite restaurant on Brooklyn after a long day of working on the prep for the tour. Sophie's intention was for Brie to calm down her nerves and relax and, of course pasta was the best way to do it.

"Enjoy the food while you can because in two weeks we'll be a long way from New York." Sophie warned her friend, having fun with it.

"Talking about distance. How are you and Blake going to deal with it? You two are like, glued to each other lately." Brie wondered and Sophie sipped on her glass of wine before answering.

"The championship is almost over so he'll be on vacation and said he will join us on tour." Sophie told her friend, expecting her to be okay with it, since she owned the tour.

"You two do have all figured out, don't you?" Brie smiled. It was clear how the two people were right for each other.

"What about George?"

"We decided to take things lightly for now. I have to focus on being the best I can during this tour... It's just... the right person at the wrong time you know?" Brie shrugged, trying to look like she didn't really care about this too much, although Sophie knew she did.

"I'm sure he's going to the New York concert at least. And then, you both are young... you have time. The tour won't last forever." Sophie tried her best at giving a decent advice, but she knew she wasn't the best at doing so.

"You're right." They continued eating and drinking wine and chatting until it was time to go home.

Despite her saying she wouldn't have much time to sleep, Blake still left his key with her so she could go to his house if she wanted to.

And the fact was: she really wanted to sleep feeling the smell of his cologne on the mattress.

So before she could think too much about it, she found herself going towards his apartment. She walked straight to the bedroom and changed her clothes to a worn T-shirt from Blake's.

And just as she lied on her usual side of the bed, covering herself with their shared mattress, her phone rang and she smiled, knowing it would be Blake calling her.

"Hey, boyfriend." She answered at the second ring.

"Did you even check the caller's ID to see if it was me?" Blake asked on the other line, clearly laughing.

"Who else would call me at 11pm?"

"Good to know I'm the only one who calls you late at night."

"Another five minutes and I would be sound asleep on your bed." Sophie admitted.

"So you did take up on my offer of staying at my place..."

"Only because your bed is bigger than mine. Nothing else." Sophie smiled at the phone, getting comfortable under the covers.

"Admit it. You miss me." Blake whispered and Sophie struggled not to laugh.

"I saw you less than 24 hours ago." She reasoned.

"So what?"

"So I shouldn't be missing you..."

"But you do." He said back.

"You never give up, do you?" She laughed.

"Not when it's important."

"What also is important is your game tomorrow and my work. So let's get some sleep, okay?" Sophie yawned.

"You're right... goodnight, Soph."

"Goodnight Blake."
