Monday morning I was ready and rearing to go.
I cried so much on Sunday it was hard to believe I had that much tears left in me.Deidra, Syd, Morgan and Mari all called because they knew I was usually emotionally drained from the day's significance. I just answered enough to let them know I was alive and breathing but still wanted no human contact.
Marcus called as well but I ignored him. I didn't want to know why he was calling. In my opinion he could take his business and assumptions and shove it up his well rounded ass.
I was going through the motions at work. But I was still on point. I firmly believed that no matter what was going in my personal life, it should never be reflected in my work.
So I found it weird when I saw the memo from Mr Collins on my desk referring to my "decreased level of output." Was that even a thing?
Petty boys would always be petty boys. I was so emotionally detached I didn't even get mad.My Sunday had used up all my emotional quotient for my entire year. I hoped I didn't need to cry for any reason this year because I had no tears left.
"Ms. Daniels, Mr. Harris is here to see you."
I knew he had no appointment so I was tempted to say I was busy but I was a professional and we still needed to discuss his account.
"Send him in."
"How are you today Mr. Harris?"
"Good and you?"
"I'm fine."
"Let me firstly say I'm sorry I overstepped my boundaries the other night. I was wrong and I apologize."
"Well let me say I don't discuss personal matters at work but I do accept your apology. Life's too short to hold on to unnecessary things."
"Thank you and I respect that so let's get down to business. I was considering moving my account to another firm due to personal matters."
"Look Mr. Harris-"
"Please call me Marcus."
"Marcus, I don't want to seem cocky but I'm great at what I do. I'm not sure what personal reasons you may have but I guarantee that we can work together and find a way around them to make your busines venture successful."
He pondered this for a moment and then finally,
"Okay, I'll make you a proposal. If you can get me a reasonable strategy in two, three months tops I'll stay.""Fine, I can work with that. I'll do you one better. Two months tops, you'll have a strategy and a promo party to gauge the success."
"Can't wait to see you work your magic."
As he got up to leave something clicked,
"You knew my name before, at the club, how?"He chuckled, "As you rightfully said, you are great at your job. Your reputation precedes you."
"And why were you at my nephews party?"
"Mari is an old friend from college. He invited me to get out the house and meet friends because apparently I need to go out more. I would ask you to be my friend but I'll have to wait until we're outside of work."
I genuinely laughed, "Goodbye and have a good day."
"You too Ms. Daniels."
