That smile again.
"By the way, friend, you look nice today. I have to get going even though I would love to continue this."
"You're on a date?"
Really Lila, you need to control the words that venture out your mouth. Ugh.
Maybe he didn't hear.
He looked at me with an amused smile so I know he heard,
"Something like that."
"That's nice, well I'll leave you to it."
As I hurriedly walked back to my table I continued my mental battle.
Why was I feeling this feeling?
Like jealousy.
But that was something I haven't felt in eight years for a man.
Maybe my auntie from red hills was on her way and I was PMSing, yes that was the only logical reason for this feeling.
"Earth to Lila."
"Hmm. Yeah sorry, what were you saying?"
"What's on your mind? Who was it?"
"You remember Marcus right?"
"Yeah, tall, sexy looking from the club right?"
"Yeah, him. That's who Candace is out with."
"Lies."
"Nope, I asked if he was on a date and he said yes! Why the hell are you laughing like that?"
"Just wondering when you're gonna stop lying to yourself and admit that you like him. More than a sex buddy I might add."
"I do not, I just... I don't like him like that that."
"I'm sure he had asked you out, and I'm also sure you've turned him down.
Lil, I love you. You're like the sister I never had biologically. And as your best friend I know you are still holding unto Jamal. I know you loved him, and he loved you. But he's gone now and as weird as it is for me to say this you have to move on. Marcus could be that one for you.
I may never find my Jamal but you are getting a second chance here. I can just feel it."
"What if it actually works out?"
"Jamal will still be in your heart. Loving someone else doesn't mean Jamal's memory will end. It means that it had actually lived on, Jamal helped you trust and love years ago and that same love will help you in the future."
"Thanks Syd. I'll think about it. I can't date Marcus in any case, he's a client and I don't date clients."
"I'm sure you can refer him to someone else and work something out. Or date other guys until the deal is finished to get back in the groove."
"Hmm, maybe. That could work.
By the way have you found someone, cause this new found love wisdom is a bit shocking."
"Um, nah. Not likely. Now come on its shopping time and you'll need some new outfits to go out when you start dating."
"I said I'd think about it, I didn't agree."
I didn't think she heard what I said because she was pulling me up out my seat to begin shopping.
