I played a game of Should I be Petty Betty in my head, and decided not.
If I overreacted Syd would see the need to defend me and I didn't want to cause a scene here. Not with my pregnant sister here.

"Nice to meet you Alex." I flashed him my sweetest smile.

He looked uncomfortable as he said, "nice to meet you Lila."

"Are we really playing this game right now?" I heard Syd ask behind me. I know I had to get us away before she showed her true colors in the theater.

"Well we best be going. I'll see you around Candace."

I grabbed a fuming Sydonie's hand and pulled her away while Deidra led a clueless Morgan behind us.

The movie was over and it was bomb. I not only enjoyed the plot, I learned something too.
Yeah, I was independent but I shouldn't settle in thinking I wouldn't ever need companionship. And sure I'd maybe kiss a few frogs along the way but the person I was meant to be with was still around the corner.

We decided on a good old fashioned sleepover at my house to end girls night.

"This never gets old, remember when we were in high school Lil, I'd spend every weekend at your house."

"Yeah and my mom would ask, don't your friends live anywhere?"
We all finished the sentence and doubled over laughing.

Morgan piped up, "between us, Dee, Syd, Mari, Jamal, and their friends we almost ate mom out of house and home. She was always complaining about some bill."

"Yeah," I agreed, "at one point it was grocery, but then y'all would your parents fridges and take to our house. And we got part time jobs and starting helping with the electricity she just had to accept defeat."

"Remember the senior year pool party you threw Morg. That was epic, people were so upset it was invite only. I swear Aunti was livid when she got the water bill that month."

"We were having a sleepover when it came cause I was there too, I remember I woke up to 'MORGAN, LILA, GET YOUR ASSES DOWN HERE BEFORE I SLAP YOU BACK TO JAMAICA.' I knew your mom could be loud but I never thought her voice could carry like that."

By this Morgan was crying, Deidra and I were on the ground and Syd was looking as if she was still hearing my mother's voice.

"Oh my gosh, those were the good days. But since we're all here I had plans for the wedding."

"Yeah and Morgan can explain why she wants such a quick wedding," Deidra said

"I want to get married before the baby gets here, simple and I think three months is ample time because just like the pool party this is going to be a small ass wedding. A few close friends, a few family members and that's it. Only people I know wish me well."

"Any plus ones?"

"Um, not for you Syd. You aren't taking your catch of the week to my wedding. None of you are by the way."

Syd feigned sadness, "that's harsh Morg. Suppose-"

"Suppose your nose was door post, where'd you put the hinges?"

"Right here," Sydonie answered pointing to the bridge of her nose.

"That's unfair though, I'm actually seeing someone suppose I wanna take him?"

"Dee, it's not unfair. Take him to your wedding.
Now let's get down to business. I was thinking Jamaica, our parents were born there, and we always wanted to go back and it is a beautiful place to get married. It gives Morgan the beach wedding she wants and Mari was saying he wanted something simple."

I looked around to see heads nodding in agreement, so I continued.

"I was thinking a guest list of about 40, not including us and the rest the bridal party which would bring us up to about 50 total. I contacted my friend at the bridal boutique she says we can come in anytime to look at dresses, I'm thinking late next week. I already asked Mari what color he was saying purple or blue so maybe you could use lilac or lavender since you wanted something light? Also he's supposed to send me a list of 20 persons he'd like there, you need to do the same by early next week so we can send out the invitations and the RSVPs will have to be early too so everything will be tight. What do you guys think?"

"Hell yes. I know I made the right choice not hiring a wedding planner."

For the first time in a long time I felt nothing but happiness and peace.

The next morning I was awakened at 6:00 by my doorbell going off continuously.
I couldn't figure out who would be at my door so early in the morning since all the girls were here.

I went to bathroom and brushed my teeth quickly and washed the sleep out my eyes.

I put on my most unpleasant face to remind whosoever was at the door that it was hella early and they were unwelcomed right now.

I opened the door and was glad I was looking unpleasant.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

A/N  I was in a emotional rut, but huge s/o to AnneAuthor who made me feel a lil' better. Extra love goes out to you all that keep up with Lila's journey. Thanks much guys!
