"Oh my dear lord." Clara whispers as we enter the highlight of our prom venue, gripping my hand.
"Yeah." I reply, giving her hand a squeeze.
"Damn. Student Council and the Activities Club really outdid themselves this time." Justin murmurs from his spot right next to me.
Drew, who is Clara's date, agrees with a grin and a nod. As I take in a slow view of the skyline before me, I can't help but feel a sense of utter joy. Then I assess what my friends and I looked like standing side by side. We truly looked as fabulous as most people would expect from rich kids having their prom on the top of the Empire State building. Clara is in a baby pink satin dress that showed off just how perfectly thin and delicate her physique is. Drew's stocky frame was fashioned out of a five thousand dollar navy colored Armani suit with a cute pink azalea in his chest pocket. Then there was Justin, in his perfect satin black Calvin Klein suit with the blue rose I had given him. The four of us look damn good together.
Justin takes my hand, leading me to the outer fence of the roof. My eyes can't help but widen in awe as the two of us stare out at the night sky. About a third of the Senior class is currently on the roof doing the same thing as Justin and I. Staring out and seeing all of the city lights, I think about my life. I consider all of the crap that has happened this year, Jay, Matt, Trent, my parents, and Justin.
Oh Justin.
Last night, had been, well, pretty fucking amazing. He and I had, in blunt terms, screwed ourselves into oblivion. But that -
"Candy!" Clara shouts from the elevator doorway.
"Let's go dance."
"Coming!" I shout back, grinning.
Justin happily follows me as I run to Clara. I am filled with an unusual sense of unaltered joy and adrenaline as I prance alongside my best friends. The DJ is blasting Uma Thurman through his speakers, causing me to become even more pumped up as the beat of the song pulses in my veins. In minutes the four of us were on the dance floor grinding together with stupid grins on our faces. We let ourselves get lost in the music and unaltered fun of everything. Twenty minutes into it I break away from the group to get a drink.
"You look absolutely stunning." A familiar cocky voice murmurs into my ear.
"Flattery wont cover up your piece of shit personality."
"Aw, Candy you hurt me so." Trent remarks.
"The hell do you want?" I snap, the previous joy I had felt before disappeared.
"Just wondering how your little fantasy world is going with Justin."
"Fuck off, Trent." I say simply, ready to punch him.
"What can't - "
"Mr. Rivers, how great to see you. I'm sure your date is missing your company."
Trent stares at Matt for a minute before, snorting and walking away. I smile appreciatively and don't even hide the way my eyes scan down his beautiful frame. He is wearing a simple charcoal grey suit with a rebellious pink tie, which makes me raise a single brow. I take notice that Matt is gazing at me just like I was gazing at him. Everything in me wants to run my hands along his suit, but I contain myself.
"So, you having a good time?" He asks with a small grin on his full lips.
"Yeah, it's great." I answer, giving him a grin of my own. "Though I can't wait until midnight."
"Me either."
"You're picking me up at 12:01 sharp right?"
"And not a second later."
