I entered my living room, exhausted from my secret meeting with Josh. Neither Evelyn nor Derek knew about it and I was sure as hell that they wouldn't approve either. Evelyn would use it as an opportunity to grill me. And Derek, I couldn't even figure out what was happening with him half the time, even though we were married now for two months.

Not officially though. Our anniversary would be in three days, not that I was counting or anything.

Last month he'd bought me dinner, but I wasn't in the mood because I was still angry about us being married. It was a sweet gesture but I think I'd just glared at him at the time.

Maybe this month would be different. I liked to think of him as a fun roommate rather than a husband. Yes, we'd had a couple of incidents that could be deemed as romantic, but I was sure that neither of us wanted it to turn in that direction. Ninety nine percent sure.

After all, I had Josh. And Derek had... Actually, I wasn't sure who he'd had before our whole predicament.

I set down my keys on the mahogany side table near the door and then walked to bathroom, immersed in my thoughts.

Was there someone else for him too? Someone I didn't know about? Was she upset about us getting married?

I paused for a brief second as my hand went to reach the faucet, a sudden thought filled my mind.

Was he secretly meeting this 'her' too?

I swallowed hard as I yanked open the faucet knobs and turned on the water. Something about that thought didn't sit right with me .

But surely he wasn't pining after her right? I mean, I was only meeting with Josh to explain the circumstances, we weren't having an affair or anything. But the real question is, was Derek? I was sure that neither of us was romantically attracted to the other but I hadn't ruled out the option of an affair.

I subconsciously frowned as I washed the makeup off my face. I guess I couldn't exactly call it an affair. We were, after all, thrown together in an unexpected marriage and probably had loving partners before all of this.

Something tugged in my heart the more I thought about it until I was queasy. Could he be having an affair? It just didn't sit right with me.

I walked back down the hallway to the living room that connected to the kitchen and then froze as I stared at a pair of malicious eyes.

They belonged to a young boy, very young, who sat on top of my couch. He grinned at me evilly as I widened my eyes in recognition.

"You!" I hissed, pointing a finger at him.

The 'you' I was referring to was Beach Ball Boy. Or rather, now it should've been Water Gun Boy.

He laughed in this sneer that reminded me so much of Evelyn that I wanted to wipe it off his face almost immediately.

"How did you get in here?" I asked angrily.

Surely he couldn't have just climbed up a three story apartment. I mean, he had to be only about five years old with probably zero parkour skills.

"I invited him," Derek's deep voice resonated towards me casually, but sent me on high alert, notifying me that he'd entered the room.

He had been out on the deck before walking in on our conversation. I watched as he gently closed the sliding glass door and carefully made sure that sand didn't get into the cracks of my hardwood floors. He knew I hated that. Without thinking, I smiled at the way he'd remembered the small things that annoyed me.

"Someone's got a crush."

I snapped my eyes back to the oh-so-familiar leering face the boy on the couch made. I grinded my teeth together unhealthily. This boy had made the simple task of going outside a nightmare. Anyway I would step out onto my balcony during the day, he was there, like a stalker, bombarding me with projectiles and anything else he could think of.
