"I love you Kate." Derek said happily from across the bed.
I smiled, "I love you too."
He leaned in and kissed his soft lips against mine. Again, those familiar butterflies in my stomach left me feeling as if I was floating on the moon. Derek entwined his hand in mine and flashed me his killer smile.
My heart melted seeing it and I told him that I loved him again.
"I love you too Kate. I'm so glad we made up our differences and got back together. I really missed you."
I laughed, "So did I. You have no idea how many weeks I spent weeping about it. And I moved my living place so many times, from this apartment to a hotel to my parents' house. It was a nightmare!"
Derek squeezed my hand affectionately, "Well we're here now and that's all that matters."
Suddenly, Josh burst through the door to the bedroom and pointed an accusing finger from Derek to me, "He's a liar! You should be with me instead!"
I sat up abruptly, clutching the comforter to my naked form, "Josh, what the hell are you doing?"
He stormed over and yanked my arm unsuccessfully as he tried to remove me from the bed, "Saving you from this bastard. Let's go."
"What?" I asked, confused as to how he came to that conclusion.
"You love me, remember?" Josh reminded me triumphantly.
"No, I don't. I love Derek and I always have."
I woke from the dream abruptly and sat up as I remembered everything. My fingers pinched my nose in frustration. Even in my dreams I couldn't seem to escape from reality.
I leapt from the bed and gazed out of my window to stare at the full moon raining it's light onto the ground.
As I continued to stare, I realized that I really did miss him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I looked outside my bedroom window to see Derek's truck still missing from the outside of his house. It has been like that for a couple of days since I'd been to his place and seen his father.
I really hoped that he hadn't skipped town again. He never really was the same after seeing his sister so broken.
Derek had in no way contacted me or let me know where he was going. He made decisions on his own, that much clear, and I wondered for how long his life had been like that.
I wished he'd let me in. I even forgave him for kissing Evelyn but I didn't know why he'd done that either. Everything about Derek had always been a big mystery. At first, that had been part of his charm, but now it was turning into annoyance and worry. He was tall, handsome and mysterious.
I needed answers though, and if he wanted to keep me then he had to let me in.
