The glaring faces of my parents stared back at me from the doorway. Mum looked especially wild, with her hair stuck up like she got hit by a lightning bolt and a killer scowl ready to knockout the next person in her way. And right now, that person was me.
She barreled right past me, thrusting her arm out to shove me aside.
"Where is he?" She snarled.
Dad looked equally angry, a trait that he wasn't often known for. His beet red face and ears were the most obvious indicators.
"He's not here," I said minutely.
It was best not to say much when Mum was angry. Things were just easier that way.
"He damn well better not be!" She said, making a show of her dramatically slow turn.
Dad suddenly seemed to remember that his mouth could do more than simply frown because his turn came next.
"And you-"
"What the hell were you thinking?!" Mum finished.
Uh-oh. If Mum was so mad that she couldn't even let Dad finish a sentence, then things really weren't looking good for me.
And I didn't know how much more drama I could handle after my horror of a revelation yesterday.
"Mum-" I started.
Her eyes flashed, "You," She began, stretching out the vowel, "How could you?"
"After everything that boy put us through!" Dad chimed in.
"And is still putting us through!" Mum continued, quickly rounding over to the kitchen to see if I'd shoved Derek there, even though I specifically said he wasn't here.
"You didn't even invite us to the wedding!" Mum shouted, raising her voice even higher than it already was.
A spark of anger flared through me, "I didn't have a wedding!"
"That's right, because the two of you eloped." Dad barked.
"We didn't!" I said in exasperation.
"You did. I heard it all Katie, and let me tell you, I'll kill him! He's as good as dead." Mum was shouting more than she ever has.
The tears flowing out of my eyes from all the drama are finally pouring out of me.
"Where did you hear Mum?" My voice rang out, matching Mum's.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. You already know the answer.
"Evelyn." She said in a matter-of-factly tone.
"She's a liar."
Mum looked relieved, "So you didn't actually marry that devil?"
"I did- I mean, we are still married."
Dad let out a hiss of disapproval and shook his head in denial while he muttered,"I can't believe this."
"But it was a trap!" I said quickly to avoid round two of another screaming match.
"He's really gone Mum. He broke my heart and now he's gone. And the worst part is I can't believe I fell for it."
My tears grow infinitely large and in a matter of seconds my sniffles grew into big, ugly sobs.

Derek and I have created a routine of making out in public for a few minutes before he has to leave for some event or another.
I hated it at first but it's the only way I can get close to him now. At lunch he surrounded himself with loud, obnoxious jerks of all grades and he doesn't often come to English either which are really the only times I see him.
When I do see him, it's only for a flash before he's gone. Like a ghost or a guy in a magic show hidden in the disappearance box.
Mia, my four year old sister, and I are planting pots in our garden.
I hand her an African violet.
"Where does this one go Katie?" She asked, holding the pot with two tiny hands.
I point to an open space beside our big pine tree, "See that spot Mia?"
I wait 'til she nods and then tell her to put it beside the tree.
She grinned in the cutest way imaginable with a tiny dimple in her cheek. Mia ran all the way and then ran back to give me the biggest hug she could manage.
My lips curved into a smile. Mia leaned back letting her golden locks fly in the wind.
"Can I ask you a question Katie?" She giggled.
My fingers pretend to snip off her nose and she giggled even louder than before.
"You already did Mia."
She ignored me, "Why did Derek kiss you just now?"
I freeze, my arm reaching for another remained as still as a statue.
Shit. I really did hope that Mia didn't notice our latest make out session seconds before Mia came out the door.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Mia asked innocently.
"Um, good question." I said, my stomach fluttered when I remembered the kiss and my cheeks were definitely blushing.
"So is he?" She asked.
I bit my cheek, "God I hope so."
