Buzz buzz.
My phone vibrated again. What now?
Josh again.
You'll really want to hear this. It's about Evelyn and Derek. This could be the news that could break the marriage contract! Don't you want to find out??
Okay now I was definitely interested. I texted him back.
I'm listening.
He replied, I can't text you this. It's too important. If you want to find out you have to meet me. Now.
I let out a frustrated cry. Why couldn't he just tell me the damn news and get it over with?
In the midst of frustration, I didn't notice that Derek had snuck up behind me. His strong arms reached around my side and pulled me in close.
"Who are you texting?" He asked, his forest green eyes peering up into mine.
I quickly switched the phone off and threw it on the bed.
"No one important." I said as I turned and planted a kiss on his lips.
"Mmm," He murmured.
I pulled away and he gestured to the towel around his waist. A cheeky grin raised up the corners of his mouth.
"We can go for round two if you're ready for it."
I laughed and swatted at his head lightly, "Control yourself Carter."
He stood and towered over me at his full length. Derek pushed a lock of my hair behind my ears, "I can't when your around me Williams."
I smiled and grabbed at his hands, "Let's get you breakfast."
We left the bedroom and entered the dining room. Just as we sat down, Derek frowned. He lifted the bottle of syrup and shook it, trying to get any remaining contents out of it.
"There's none left." He announced.
"Oh. I guess when I decided to make pancakes I didn't realize that we didn't have syrup." I looked at him awkwardly, "Now I just feel stupid."
He stood, his bare chest muscles naturally flexing, "I can get it. Let me just get dressed and-"
As he spoke, my thoughts drifted.
Don't you want to know Derek's secret?
"No!" I found myself shout.
Derek silenced.
I scratched the back of my neck, surprised by my sudden outburst, "It's my mistake. I'll get it."
"Are you sure? We can just eat it without it."
I waved my hand at him dismissively, "Nonsense. I'll get it. In the meantime, get a shirt on."
His deep laugh rumbled through the room as I left to get my phone.
After switching it on again, I texted Josh back.
Fine. I'll meet you at the coffee shop in five.

A hand tapped me on my shoulder. I instinctively grabbed the wrist of the person in a vice grip.
Derek pulled away with a surprised look on his face.
"Jesus Katie." He asked as he rubbed his sore hand.
My hand flew to my mouth, "Sorry. I didn't realize it was you."
"Who the hell did you think it was? You've been so edgy lately."
He was right. I'd been on edge since the bathroom scene happened. And I hadn't told anyone about it. Not even Cass. I would jump every time I saw Evelyn, Trishala, or any of the other two girls who were there with them.
"It's nothing." I said as I closed my locker door and slung my backpack over my shoulder, "I have to get home."
"That's the other thing. You never want to hang out anymore. At lunch you stick with Cass like glue and after school you always say you need to go home. What about what we need? When are you going to make time for us?" He argued.
I was about to retort when I caught Evelyn across the hall. She glared at me with her arms crossed.
I closed my mouth and mumbled, "Sorry. I have to go."
