"I have a bad feeling about this plan." Derek said unsurely, "There are so many things that could go wrong."
I shook my head, "We can't think about that. All we have to do is show Josh that we're happy together and that I can't marry him. He'll run to Evelyn all by himself!"
"It just sounds so..."
"Stupid?" I offered, "I agree. But it just might work. At the very least we'll get Josh out of the picture."
"Fine. But don't say I didn't warn you."

Josh crossed his arms over his chest as he stood in my living room. His ocean-blue eyes glared at Derek with his brows knit together and his lip curled into a scowl.
"What is he doing here?" Josh asked as he and Derek tried to size each other up.
I stepped between them so Josh could focus on me, "It's okay, he's with me."
His eyes widened, allowing me to see the clarity of the crystal blue colour in them, "You mean... You and him...?"
I nodded slowly, unsure as to how he'd react.
He slouched over with his shoulders hunched. I almost felt bad for him, for letting him down, after all he'd asked me to marry him.
I walked over to him and gently touched a hand to his arm. Josh looked up at me, his eyes full of sorrow.
"I need you to help me though," I said, "We need to get rid of these contracts."
His mouth twisted into a frown, "How could I help with that? You should be asking Evelyn, not me."
My head shook automatically, "She won't listen to us. She'll listen to you."
He grasped my hands and all trace of any romantic feelings I'd had for him in the past had disappeared.
"Kate you know I'd do anything for you but I don't know how I can help you this time," He said.
I tried a different approach, "Do you love me?"
He nodded truthfully, "To the moon and back."
"Do you want me to be happy?"
"Yes."
"Then please do this for me?" I asked as gently as I could, hoping he would agree.
He looked at me, his eyes darting between mine until he finally nodded.
"I will."

My phone rang and I eagerly jumped at the tone. The calling number was my mother. I rolled my eyes and quickly rejected the call. There were bigger things to worry about than my mother and her opinions.
A few seconds passed by before another phone call emerged. This one was from Josh.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey Kate, I did what you said and while it took a bit of convincing, Evelyn has agreed to revoke the contracts if I give her a month of my time." He said.
I squealed in delight, "Josh that's great! I knew you could do it!"
I could almost hear the hesitation in his voice, " What's wrong?"
"It's just-urgh- I don't know if I can do it Kate. She put us through a lot already." He answered.
"Josh, listen to me. If you do this, I will owe you a monumental favour."
