Chapter 16

Tim slowly kneels down beside me. He looks at me confused as I slowly move my hand over the board I had stepped on. I find a corner that was sticking up and slowly pull until it comes up. It was only a small piece, so I grab the piece beside and pull it up as well. It looks like the book had just put down here.

You pull out the blue book and turn to Leon and thank him for helping you. Tim glares at him a little and we leave. As we're starting to walk back I was a little suspicious about the librarian. "Tim, how long have you known that librarian?"

"Well, I actually don't know. Since I was little I guess, but he's always been some stranger in my eyes." He looked kinda confused and ran his fingers through his hair. I just nod and look down at the book I tucked under my arm. Hopefully this has something helpful about my family. I still don't know why there wasn't a layer of dust on it if it was down there.

After a few minutes we were back at the cottage. I put the book on the table. Tim sat on the chair and I went and sat on his knees as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I take the book and slide it closer to me. The vines seem to hold it closed. How am I going to get this open? Leon didn't say anything about it being locked.

I tilt the book from side to side looking for some sort of lock on it. I couldn't find any. Maybe it was because I was so tired. I refused to just quit on this. I wanted answers on why I could shapeshift into more then just one animal. There had to be something about my parents.

I slam the book back on the table and lean back against Tim and put my head on his shoulder. I couldn't believe we went through all that and couldn't even open the book. I mean come on, there had to be some way. Maybe it was just beyond my own mind. Maybe, just maybe. . . After that I lost myself I'm thought and fell asleep.

I woke up. The clock in the room read 3:45 am. Tim must have moved me to the bed because I was laying in the bed with him beside me. He was fast asleep, breathing deeply. The shadows were dark against him and his hair fell across his eyes.

I slowly crawled out of bed trying not to wake him up. I opened the door and slid into the living room and quietly closed the door behind me. Making sure it didn't even make a click as it closed. Once it was closed I glided over to the table where I had placed the book and sat down in front of it.

I began tilting the book looking for some sort of lock to open it again. This time there was one on the side of the book. That's strange. I didn't think there was any. It looks like my finger could fit inside it. I press my finger against it only to hit some sort of glass. I hear a small buzzing and the a click to the book. The vines slowly start moving and wrap around the cover of the book allowing me to open it.

I open the book up and start reading. I guess I lost track of time. "What are you doing?" The voice was deep and almost commanding. I jump and turn around to see Tim standing in the door. His face is blank and he is looking me over.

"Oh. . . I just got the book opened and I was reading through it. I woke up, and couldn't get back asleep." His face softens and he comes to my side and looks over my shoulder at the book. We both start reading through the book again.

After awhile we had read through the whole book. I closed it and the vines move to lock it. I didn't know what to think. I found out all of my families secrets, I just couldn't believe it.

I stand up and Tim backs up and bows a little. I shake my head. "Please. . . It's probably not true."

"Oh, but what if it is my princess." A smile appears on his face. He looks me in the eyes. I was shocked. So what now?
