It will always be in Lacey's POV unless otherwise noted

On Monday, I had to go back to school much to my dismay. I'd given up trying to make friends at North High long ago. Apparently I was too creepy for the artsy kids and too mainstream for the creepy goth kids and I of course wasn't anywhere near smart or popular. I didn't seem to belong anywhere, so I walked the halls alone.

Throughout the day, I surprisingly thought of the girl I had been messaging on Twitter. We'd talked again for the second time yesterday and I'd learned she was an eighteen year old girl, a year older than me, her name was Jasmine, she was in her senior year of high school and that she loved 5sos and Twenty One Pilots just like I did! The amount of things we had in common was insurmountable. I wish I knew her in real life so we could fangirl together and I could hear her American accent and see if she was really as pretty as she was in her profile picture.

Or so I could just have someone to talk to.

I was awoken from my daydream in the middle of last period by something hitting me in the back of the head. Turning around, I saw a couple of boys that sit near the back were pointing at the ground near my seat. Looking in that direction, I saw a folded up piece of paper. A note.

"Mine?" I whispered to them.

"No," they pointed to a tall blonde girl who was in front and to the left of me. I sighed as I tapped her on the shoulder and handed the note to her instead. Of course the note wasn't for me. Everyone here always acts as if I'm invisible. I wondered if Jasmine would still want to be my friend if she went to my school or if she would ignore me just like everyone else.

The final bell rang and I silently praised God that school was over. Slinging my book bag over one shoulder, I hauled ass out of the school building and began the mile long trek back to my house. My mum said the school was close enough for me to walk to so she wasn't wasting money on gas to drop me off there every day before she went to work. I never argued her on the subject since I knew money was tight ever since she and dad split up and I knew she still had my younger brother and sister to put through school.

Finally, I saw the blue siding of my house in the distance and started jogging. I was anxious to flop on my bed and escape life via the internet. Yanking open the lemon-yellow front door, I shouted "I'm home!" before remembering my mom was at her new afternoon job at the diner down the street a ways and my siblings were at their assorted sports practices.

Feeling lonely, I trudged up the stairs and flopped on my crisp white bed spread just like in my fantasy before pulling out my phone. Upon opening Twitter, I saw that I had already received a message from Jasmine, but it was from earlier this morning.

@CurrentlyMuke: Happy Monday! Hope u survive school.

Ha, survive school. I smiled as I typed a brand new message to my new friend which she replied to within seconds.

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: rotfl survive school. does anyone ever *really* survive school?

@CurrentlyMuke: haha true true. so I must ask you ARE YOU GOING TO THE SLFL CONCERT IN OCTOBER WHEN 5SOS COMES TO SYDNEY????

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: whoa that was random. but no, I'll never be able to afford tickets.

@CurrentlyMuke: sure you can!

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: how?

@CurrentlyMuke: enter a contest.

She did have a point. I actually had never thought of entering a contest before. I hurriedly typed a reply.

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: I guess I could find a contest to enter... I do like to draw a little bit :3

@CurrentlyMuke: great!

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: yeah. wait, so are you going to see the SLFL show in Jacksonville??

@CurrentlyMuke: of course! I can't wait to see my future husband in real life 0_o

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: I'm sure Michael will be thrilled.

@CurrentlyMuke: you bet he will! hey, I've gotta go. talk to you tomorrow, friend <3

@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: ttyl friend <3

After I put my phone away, I grabbed my laptop to look for some type of contest I could enter. I wasn't really good at anything, so unless it didn't require any skill I was toast.

The first few things that came up when I googled '5sos contest' were either for the Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour or were already completed so that some other happy girl already had tickets instead of me. I even went so far as to check out Instagram and Twitter to see if there were any give aways or contests made by other fans, but I still came up empty handed. So much for Jasmine's amazing idea. Sighing, I closed my computer and went to start my homework, the only thing I seemed to be able to do correctly.

The next morning, I was walking to school when the unexpected occurred. Whoever said to expect the unexpected knew their shit, because the whole thing totally threw me off guard.

I was about halfway there, when I saw a guy around my age come out of one of the houses on the street I was walking on. A hood was covering his head and he was looking down so I had yet to find out what he looked like. He kept the same pace as me but he was on the other side of the street. Some time passed and when wee were almost to the school, he was still walking the same way as me! I'd never heard of anyone else from my area walking to school so he must be new.

"Oh. G'day!" He had looked up when his earbuds fell out of his ears and saw me looking over at him. My face reddened, but I gave him a small wave in response. I wouldn't have though if I had known he'd come over to my side of the street.

"G'mornin' mate. Ay, are you going to the North High School that's up the road 'ere?" He began talking to me more. His Australian accent was thicker than mine and I figured he was from somewhere in the outback. Pushing my curiosity to the back of my mind, I remembered that I was terrified of talking to new people so I stared at my Converse and didn't answer.

"Ay, I don't bite," his face fell a bit when he saw I wasn't going to answer. I hated being rude and I felt like a complete twat, but I remembered he wouldn't want to talk to me anyway once he got to know me. No one does. It's best to not even try anymore.

"Alright, we can just walk there in silence I suppose. My name's Alexander by the way, but most folks just call me Al," we came to the highway I had to cross every day before reaching the school. Just before the two of us walked into the school, I got a burst of courage. I decided to take a chance for once.

"Nice to meet you, Al. I'm Lacey," I gave him a small smile before hurriedly walking away to my locker.
