Lacey's POV
.
.
.
Scrolling through Twitter one lazy Saturday afternoon, I saw Michael Clifford had posted a picture of his newly dyed blue hair. He was making the most absurd face, almost like the duck face. I smiled as I re tweeted it and continued scrolling through my feed, which was only fan accounts and celebrities. While Twenty One Pilots and 5 Seconds of Summer were my favorites, I also followed the likes of All Time Low, Sleeping with Sirens, Pierce the Veil, Ghost Town, and others. It's not like I really had any friends to follow anyway.
"Lacey, have you finished your homework yet? You don't need to be on that phone of yours if you haven't finished your homework!" My mum nagged me from the kitchen.
"Yes, mum! I already told you, we didn't have that much work to do this week so I worked ahead," I answered her. She shouldn't be on my case so much considering that I'm seventeen, almost a legal adult. Since I had a lot of free time, I usually got good grades and worked ahead in school. I knew it would benefit me later in life, and I also wanted to strive my best for my mum. She doesn't need a daughter who's more of a screw up than I already am.
Going onto my own Twitter account, I tried to think of something to post. Twenty One Pilots or 5sos hadn't done anything interesting lately, so there wasn't much I could say since mine was an update account. I sighed and finally decided on something lame:
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: Is @Michael5SOS's new blue hair cute af or what?
No wonder Michael seemed to notice me anymore. It's not like I'd have anything clever to say to him anyway. That's probably why we lost contact in the first place.
I thought back to the little blonde boy I used to know when I was in elementary school. Michael and I used to be the best of childhood friends. We used to go to the park together, to each other's houses, even spend the night with each other a few times. As we got older, we realized I needed to start hanging out with girls more and he with boys, but we were still great friends until he went off to college. After that, we saw each other less and less often, phone calls became fewer and far between and soon stopped all together. Then it was just text messages but soon those stopped as well. For awhile, I wondered what became of shy, goofy little Michael Clifford. Then, I started to hear about an up and coming band called 5 Seconds of Summer. After listening to their music and loving it, I looked up the members and realized that one of their members was Michael Clifford himself! I tried to DM him on Twitter, but he would never answer. I couldn't call him because he'd obviously gotten a new phone and his old number was out of service. I couldn't just go over to his house either, cause at the time the four boys were living in a house together in Los Angeles, California. It looked like I was stuck being just a fan. Later, I realized Michael probably wouldn't remember me anyway. He had other, more important things to think about than old Lacey Palmer back in Sydney. And here I was, two years later, still stuck being a fan.
Closing Twitter, I got ready to hop in the shower. I was surprisingly tired after a long day of doing nothing.

Returning to my phone when I hopped in bed that night, I saw I'd actually gotten a reply to my lame tweet earlier. This was unusual, considering I didn't have that many followers. There were other, better update accounts for 5sos and Twenty One Pilots for people to follow. I read the reply.
@CurrentlyMuke: YAS, the blue hair is cute af!! When he dies it a new color, it's always an emotional journey for us Michael girls.
Michael girl. I smiled to myself, it was always so weird to see other fans type 'Michael girl' or 'Calum girl' or whichever member they happened to be talking about. I decided to reply to her funny comment.
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: lol u must have a lot of emotional journies then @CurrentlyMuke nice name btw
Not a minuet later, the same person had replied again.
@CurrentlyMuke: thankss :) same to you
Whoever this was seemed nice and I wanted to keep talking to them, but I moved our conversation into a DM so as not to spam my comment section on my tweet.
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: so do you follow me? I think I'd remember talking to someone so nice before.
@CurrentlyMuke is now following you.
@CurrentlyMuke: now I'm following you. :) no, I just happened to come across your tweet and I just had to comment on it since it was about Michael. He is my future husband. <3
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: there, now I'm following you too. and lol you must really love Michael.
@CurrentlyMuke: yeah. who's lane are you in?
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: I'm not really in any of their lanes, I just like the music
@CurrentlyMuke: oh, that's cool. what's your fav song?
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: Disconnected. wbu?
@CurrentlyMuke: Try Hard. It sucks cause it's not available where I live :(
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: haha, sucker :P we can get that song here in Australia. Where do you live?
@CurrentlyMuke: Florida. (That's in the United States)
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: I know. and awesome. I've been on vacation in Florida before. It's nice there. nicer than Sydney at least.
@CurrentlyMuke: Nothing can be as nice as Sydney! How does it feel to live in the same town that 5sos is from? What do you do when they come home for a holiday or something????
@TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: eh, it's not really that big of a deal. hey, it was nice talking to you. can we do it again tomorrow? I'm gonna die if I don't get any sleep.
@CurrentlyMuke: sure. bye :)
My conversation with whoever that was really got me thinking. Why did I not ever do anything when the band came home to visit? I guess my subconscious had already decided for me that trying to get Michael's attention while he was in town was as futile as trying to get his attention on Twitter, which was probably for the best anyway. It's better to not try at all than to try really hard and get let down. After sorting through my thoughts, I realized something else: had I just made an internet friend? An actual friend? This was even better than getting Michael's attention. Now I might actually have someone to talk to besides my mum.
