Sunday finally arrived, and all of us decided to go hang out at the park. It was a beautiful fall day, and we were all for derping around and just relaxing and having a good time. Jasmine and I baked everyone cookies with my mom's recipe for double chocolate chips so everyone was eating those, Calum brought a frisbee so he and Ashton were throwing it back and forth, Luke was cooing over Charlotte's teacup Yorkie that she brought, and Michael, Jasmine, Al and I were just sitting in the shade under a tree, watching everyone frolic. It seemed so weird to have a normal day like this after all the drama that's been going on.
"Aww, look at his wittle face!" Luke petted Charlotte's dog some more while she talked to him and they laughed. Charlotte was in a straggly pleasant mood today for someone who really got the short end of the stick. I mean, she said she didn't like Michael anymore, but was she serious this time? Why was she so happy?
"Hey, what's wrong with queen stick-up-my-ass today? She's usually never this pleasant," Jasmine wondered aloud what I was thinking in my head. Of course.
"I don't know," I laughed at her. "Maybe like the rest of us, she just finally feels at peace now," I replied.
"Yes, we're all at peace," Michael spoke in a mock-calm whispering voice, and then bowed like an oriental person. "Namaste." Everyone laughed some more.
"Maybe Charlotte's so happy because she doesn't have to date me anymore," Al piped up.
"Oh, come off it Al, that's not it. Y'all both knew that relationship wasn't right to begin with," Jasmine said, shoving him a little. Michael giggled when her southern drawl came out.
"Watch it, kangaroo boy. I could've made fun of your accent so many times by now," Jasmine pointed an accusing finger at him and tried to look serious which just made him laugh more.
"Kangaroo boy?" Michael gasped in mock offense. "Jasmine is racist!" He shouted.
"Hey hey hey," Ashton made his way over. "What's all this talk about me? I heard kangaroo boy was mentioned?"
"She was talking about accents, not laughs, you dingo," Calum said.
"You guys are not helping your argument by saying stereotypical Australian things," Jasmine facepalmed and shook her head.
"AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!" The whole band shouted, earning our little group a few stares from other people in the park. I turned away embarrassed, but still smiling. There, still sitting across from me, was Al. He was smiling too.
"Hey, wanna get away from all this banter for a second?" He asked timidly, flipping his blonde hair out of his eyes.
I glanced at everyone who had drifted out from under the shade of the tree from the corner of my eye and gave Al a sly smile. A few minuets alone wouldn't hurt. "Sure."
Standing up, he grabbed my hand and tugged me over to a little duck pond on the far side of the park. There, we sat down in the grass together. I hugged my knees to my chest, looking down the bank to watch the ducks. Al scooted closer.
"It's a pretty day," Al stated the obvious.
"Yeah," I smiled with my lips closed and started playing with the grass. It was brittle and dying because autumn was coming soon, but still green.
"If you feel so at peace with everything, how come you still look so sad?" He asked, looking at me with concern.
"I'm not sad!" I said a little too loud. "I'm not sad," I repeated, going back to fidgeting with the grass. "It's just, there's one thing that hasn't been resolved yet. At least, for me."
"And what's that?" I saw the hint of a smile tugging at one side of his mouth. It was cute.
"I'm glad Jasmine's going to be happy, 'cause I made sure yesterday that Michael would ask her out like I know he really wants to," I looked back over my shoulder at our group, still being rowdy and still carrying on. "But it's just, I'm not sure about the person I like."
"Oh?" He looked at me like he wanted me to go on, still trying not to grin. It made me giggle and I put my head down to hide my face.
"I don't know if he'll like me back," I said. It sounded so cheesy and so immature, but this was Al and I knew I could just say what was on my mind around him.
"I'm sure whoever it is would like you back, you're a beautiful, wonderful girl. You're stronger and kinder than anyone else I've ever known and any guy would be lucky to date you," he finished. I was still looking down at the ground because I didn't trust myself to look into his eyes. I didn't know what I'd do.
"You really think so?" I said behind my curtain of straight brown hair.
"I know so."
"Really? Because-" he cut me off.
"Lacey, look at me," he tilted my chin up and I was about to reply, but I was cut off again by Al kissing me.
I let myself close my eyes and melt into it. He was so gentle and sweet, the way you would kiss someone you really love. His hand on the back of my head tangled up in my hair and it felt good. I could stay like that, kissing Al in the park forever, and I think he would have too if we didn't both have to come up for air. Reluctantly, we both pulled away at the same time. It was like we were reading each other's minds, like we were one.
"I think he likes me back," I smiled and looked down again.
"I think so too," Al put my hair behind my ear, making me look up again. We smiled at each other, and stood up. Then, Al spoke again.
"Lacey?"
"Yeah?"
"Will you be my girlfriend?" How could I say no to that smiling face?
"I thought you'd never ask," I threw my arms around his neck and we hugged each other, and he gave me a peck on the lips when we pulled away. Now, everything thing was alright. For the first time in a long time, I was truly happy.
"Well, guess we better head back over there before Michael asks Jasmine out since we're both sure it's bound to-" I was cut off when we both turned around and saw Michael on one knee in front of Jasmine, with Calum, Luke, Ashton and Charlotte all crossing around him. Al and I sprinted over hand and hand, so as not to miss the spectacle.
"Jasmine Sinclair," Michael said louder and more dramatic than necessary. "Will you..." There was a long dramatic pause in which Michael was just grinning widely the whole time. "Be my girlfriend?"
"SERIOUSLY?!" Jasmine screamed and jumped up and down. A nearby mother moved her son away from Jasmine, giving us strange looks.
"Uh, yeah?" Michael looked confused, probably wondering if all this freaking out was a good sign.
"OF COURSE I WILL!" Jasmine shouted, now just openly fangirling at this point. I smiled. This is the Jasmine I know and love.
"ALRIGHT!" Michael stood back up and shouted just as loud. He picked Jasmine up and spun her around, then still holding her because she wouldn't be tall enough otherwise, they then started making out in the middle of the park. We all collectively groaned and we saw both of them smile into their kisses.
"Get a room!" Luke shouted, making all of us laugh. Michael set Jasmine down and they just hugged instead, both of them smiling like little kids on Christmas.
It was the perfect ending to the perfect day.

Song of the day: Love Story by Taylor Swift
Question of the day: ever had a boyfriend? I've had one, if you can even call him that. It was the worst experience of my life. Being pringle is better. It's like single, but hungry. :P
Stay courageous.
