I know why Lacey has been shutting me out, and it's not at all what I thought it was.

A few days ago, Lacey texted me during lunch saying that she was going home early because she didn't feel well. I was worried, but if she was already gone then there was nothing I could do. After school that day, I walked around the corner from school to get a Starbucks instead of going straight home. Lacey didn't like coffee so she never wanted to go when we walked home together. Besides, I thought maybe it would take my mind off of everything.

I was in line waiting for my chocolate chip frappe when someone came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. I got ready to put on my happy face, until I turned around and saw that it was none other than Charlotte White. Why does this chick always show up at the most annoying times?

"Go away, Charlotte. Lacey's not even here with me so you've got no one to terrorize," I spat, getting ready to turn my back on her again before she grabbed me by the shoulder and stopped me.

"That's exactly why I wanted to talk to you, because Lacey's not here. Listen, there's something you need to know about Lacey," her eyes darted around a bit, as if to see if anyone else we knew was listening. She started talking again before I could say I wasn't interested.

"Look, I've noticed you've been a little down lately but you act yourself around Lacey. Is it because she's ignoring you? Are you trying to get her to talk to you?" I nodded slowly, wondering why she's been watching Lacey so closely if she hates her so much.

"Why do you think she's acting all depressed like that?" She questioned.

"Well, she entered this contest for concert tickets and she really thought she was going to win but... Didn't," I was about to add the part about her financial troubles, but I had a feeling Lacey wouldn't want Charlotte to know about that.

"You mean the one for Open Arms Charity? The art contest?" I nodded. Charlotte sighed before continuing.

"Al, I bet she never told you why she wanted to win that contest. She only wants to win because Michael Clifford, the guitarist in the 5 Seconds of Summer band? She's obsessed with him. All she wants is for him to love her back like she loves him and she not let anyone get in her way," she finished. Nothing still made any sense.

"In love with him? What makes you say that?" I asked before the barista called me to get my drink. When I came back, Charlotte told me something that explained everything.

"Of course she never told you anything about her past. Lacey is a bad girl Al. I know she only hangs around you to convince you that I'm wrong and to have someone on her side, but she's the one who uses people. Let me tell you what happened freshman year..."

And then I understood.

For a few days, I was still skeptical of Charlotte's theory and her ridiculous story, but when Lacey came to me and said Jasmine was giving her a concert ticket and she was just magically not depressed anymore, I knew it had to be true. I didn't realize what Lacey had done to Charlotte all to throw herself at Michael, but now that I did, Lacey couldn't be trusted.

The only reason I continued to hang around Lacey after that is because I really had no other friends. I didn't know Charlotte actually wanted to be my friend until just yesterday when she asked me to join her, Lance, Millie and Claire at their lunch table. I gladly accepted her offer to escape my awkward situation with Lacey. When I was getting up to leave, there seemed to be genuine pain in Lacey's eyes, which I thought was a strange way for someone who was just using me to act.

But then again, that's all it was, just an act.

"And then he just got up and went to sit with Charlotte! I have no clue what's going on, I mean, I thought the two of us were friends," Lacey frowned. We were facetiming the weekend after Al apparently decided he was now friends with Charlotte and her squad. This dude just really confuses me, a little while ago he would bend over backwards for Lacey and now he's just abandoning her for no reason.

"I don't know Lace, all this sounds like a bunch of crap you don't need to deal with, especially when you have re-meeting Michael to think about. What you need is a nice long vacation," I smiled mischievously.

"It would be lovely if I could afford a vacation, but on top of all of this my mum lost one of her jobs! Working at a coffee shop doesn't really bring in that much dough ya know," she ranted.

"Ah ah ah, not so fast," I held up the plane ticket I had already printed out for her. "Round trip flight, m'lady."

"What?" She was confused. "You must be kidding. To where?"

"Miami! Where else you little shit," I started laughing at her. "Come party with me and Rachel for spring break!"

"YES! Now we can meet each other and I can still go to a concert! How did you afford that plane ticket?" Lacey sounded excited. I knew she needed a vacation.

"Rachel and I put together our savings. Oh and Rachel! She's so excited to meet you. I talk about you all the time and she says she's so happy she'll finally get to see you!" The thought of my two best friends in the whole world meeting each other just made me smile. After we'd rambled a bit more about all the things we were going to do together, we finally calmed down and Lacey realized she had to go cause it was so late there.

After our phone call though, I couldn't help but wonder if Charlotte had something to do with the way Al had been acting, and even more, what Charlotte's actual problem with Lacey was. Charlotte may be a bitch, but she can't hate Lacey for no reason other than pure evilness, right? There had to be something I was missing.

But that could all wait till after the first week of May. I finally was going to meet my best friend.
