Jasmine's POV

"Ok, we're going to my friend Austin's house tonight. It's not as big as Jason's so don't go getting your expectations up. It'll be just a classic house party," I glanced back at my two friends in the rear view mirror. They were sitting the bucket seats and staring out opposite windows. I sighed and then said "and you two have to behave," God, I felt like a parent. "People are going to come and harass you if you just stay slumming it in the corner all night. It's not an open space or in the day time like the beach." At this point, I'd say anything to get them to talk to each other or at least get them to participate in the party, even if it had to be separately. Just like all my other attempts, this one was greeted with silence. Honestly, Rachel and I are eighteen and Lacey is seventeen. You'd think we'd be more mature than this.
"Ok, we're here," I said pulling into Austin's driveway, which was much smaller than Jason's. More silence. If I was a cartoon character, steam would be pouring out of my ears, that's how mad and frustrated I was. This was supposed to be a fun week where I could hang out with and meet my internet friend, not playing mediator between the two people I love most. It was supposed to give me a reason to go out partying other than to get away from my parents who didn't care and so I could hang out with real friends instead of a bunch of random boys I happened to wake up with the next morning. Rachel was ruining everything! I knew it had to be her, Lacey is never the type to start a fight.
"UGH! Would you two just say something to each other!" I screeched as we were getting out of the car. Rachel and Lacey stopped in the middle of the driveway as we were walking up to Austin's house and turned to face each other.
"Bitch," said Rachel.
Lacey's jaw dropped so her mouth was making an astounded 'o' shape. "Me? I didn't even do anything to you, you control freak!" I had to cover my mouth to keep from laughing at Lacey's comical insult. She's not one to cuss either.
"Oh didn't you?!" Rachel shouted. Good God, I thought, we hadn't even been at the party five minuets and we were already starting a cat fight on the front lawn. "You know exactly what you've been doing, you attention whore!"
"Excuse me? I could hardly being used and screwed over attention-seeking. But whatever, since you seem to know everything. At least you know everything about alcohol tolerance. Way more than I do anyway," Lacey spat.
"Of course I do! You've never even had a drop of alcohol in your life, you useless prude. You shouldn't even be here! Go home and fuck a kangaroo or something!" Rachel was screaming like some kind of crazed soccer mom. She had gone a little too far on that one. I was about to step in when-
"I wish I could! It'd be better than staying here with you two!" Lacey yelled back before storming into the house.
"Rachel-"
"Don't touch me!" Rachel yanked away from where I was putting a hand on her arm and stormed into the house as well.
Stunned, I finally became aware of my surroundings. Apparently while I was trying to follow along with all this confusion, a small crowd had gathered around Lacey and Rachel in the yard, thinking they were going to start fighting. I saw Austin stepping toward me, looking more concerned than the rest of the blood thirsty crowd.
"Jasmine? Is um, is everything alright?" He asked, referring to the scene that had just unfolded in fron of everyone.
"No, Austin. I think I must be missing something," and then I too went into the house.
