Coming out of the terminal at Miami international airport, I probably looked like a zombie. From Sydney to here, it's a twenty one hour flight and I had slept the whole time. I was just now waking up as well, but only because the flight attendant had to come by and basically shake me awake. All this stress from back home really has got me exhausted.
The flight took up a whole day of Jasmine and I's spewing breaks (they were luckily at the same time) and so would my flight home, so that meant we had a total of five days to spend together. Five days with my closest, best, and now my only friend. Well, her friend Rachel would be with for a lot of the time as well but Jasmine assured me she and I would hit it off. Jasmine is usually a pretty good judge of character so I wasn't too worried.
After looking around for just a few minuets, I finally found what I was looking for. Standing there in the middle of the sea of busy people were two girls: one was tall with wavy sun kissed brown waves, but the other was short and had a mass of tangled, curly blonde hair. The blonde was holding up a cute home made sign that read:
CurrentlyMuke and TwentyOneSecondsOfSummer: together at last!
It was decorated with tons smiley faces and stickers and glitter so I knew it had to be made by Jasmine. I laughed as I pushed my way through the crowd and practically ran to her.
Everything seemed to go in slow motion from the second Jasmine saw me coming to her. Both our faces lit up with pure excitement and joy as she dropped the sign and held out her arms. We hugged for so long and when we were hugging it felt like the rest of the world didn't even exist. We had blocked them all out, even Rachel. I started crying because I finally realized: this is what it's like to hug your best friend.
"Um, sorry to interrupt, but you're gonna get trampled by some angry looking business people if you don't move soon," said Rachel, snapping us back to reality. Going over to the side of the walkway, Jasmine and I resumed out little love fest.
"Oh my gosh, you're so short," I laughed.
"I told you I'm short, idiot! You've even seen pictures of me standing up before!" She couldn't help but laugh with me. "And what about you, you're gorgeous! Oh my gosh, I wish my hair would cooperate like this!" She exclaimed admiring the messy braid o had thrown my brown hair into that morning. Well, morning my time. These time zones were getting me all messed up.
"But your accent! I guess FaceTime doesn't pick it up very much, but you're like really southern," I said, already knowing what her next comment was going to be.
"Ugh, do you listen to anything I tell you? I'm originally from a small town in South Carolina called Goose Creek. I'm just going to school in Florida cause I wanted a change!"
"Yep, she's a regular," Rachel started mimicking Jasmine's accent, "country hick!" We both laughed.
"Well miss perfect, do remember I still talk like an American. While you're here, you're the one with the accent," Jasmine winked at me over her shoulder as she turned around and started walking. "C'mon, let's go get your stuff out of baggage claim," I smiled and followed her. This was going to be the best week ever.

"And we're back to my bedroom which you've already seen! Rachel has her own house but she'll probably be sleeping over a lot this week since we'll be out late at parties anyway. You ever been to a college party?" I asked Lacey as I finished showing her around my house that I rent. Sometimes I forget that she's still in high school. A junior, even. I guess we are still only a year apart with her seventeen and me eighteen. I do turn nineteen in June though...
