Ruby Dellamark was five-foot-two with frizzy, honey brown hair. Some people who saw her would compare her to a twig, but she had one of those faces you'd see and just stare at. Her eyes were a perfect almond shape, her sea green irises glowed in the sunlight. And she definitely wasn't the shy type; she was the type to call it as she saw it, and she loved to cause trouble. She came to Hogwarts after being kicked out of her last school for pulling a nasty prank on some other wizards who were bullying one of the first years.

It's not that she was a bad student; she was very smart, and got top marks in many of her classes. The problem was that she didn't have a filter, but she did have a bit of a temper.

She was sorted into the Ravenclaw house before her summer ended, and was given the usual black pull-over jumper, white shirt, a blue striped tie, and a skirt. The minute she saw the skirt, she scowled. Ruby wasn't the type to dress up as a prep-school kid; so she took her wand and turned the boring black skirt into a pair of dark grey wash dress pants.

----

The four houses of Hogwarts sat in their tables, chatting excitedly amongst themselves as everybody caught up on their summer vacations. Ruby walked through the crowds, earning a few stares from the other kids. Not really at her, but more of her choice of dress wear. She had to be the first student at Hogwarts to ever defy the dress code like that. Professor McGonagall stared her down as she walked passed, but said nothing.

Ruby was suddenly shoved aside and nearly fell into another group of students. She recovered luckily and looked around, finding a boy glaring back at her.

"Watch where you're going, newbie," he sneered at her. His eyes were too far apart, and his smile was crooked. He wore a green tie and cape, and reminded her of a gargoyle. Ruby scowled right back.

"Well excuse you," she snapped right back. He was about to say something else, but another boy with blonde hair pulled him back.

"Let it go, Goyle," she heard him mutter. Ruby rolled her eyes and made her way to the Ravenclaw table, placed right next to the Gryffindor table.

"Oi!" she heard someone call out to her. She turned in her seat, coming face-to-face with another kid from the Gryffindor table.

"You new around here?" he asked her.

"Yeah," she replied.

"I'm Dean, you ever get lost, you can come find me," he smiled a cheeky smiled. Obviously, Dean had already noticed how beautiful Ruby was. Ruby cracked a small smile back.

"That's very nice of you, but I think I'll be okay," she replied.

"Seriously Dean? We ain't been back an hour and you're already looking for girls," another kid said, then he turned to Ruby. "I'm Seamus," he said.

"Ruby," she reached across the isle and shook his hand.

"If this tosser gives you trouble, come find me," he said.

"The hell does that mean?" Dean asked him.

"It means quit flirting with the girls," he replied. This conversation started to amuse Ruby.

"Alright boys, you're gonna scare her away," a girl suddenly sat down with them.

"Ruby Dellamark," Ruby introduced herself.

"Hermione Granger," the girl shook her hand, then pointed across her table. There was a ginger who was already stuffing his face with mashed potatoes and chicken, "And the hungry bloke is Ron," she said.

"Huh?" Ron looked up from his food at the sound of his name. Hermione glared at him.

"This is Ruby, be polite you git," she scolded him.
