The next day, the three schools were sat in what only a few months ago was the inside of an ice palace. Now, it was back to its grey, dull walls, tile ceilings, and foggy windows. But today, the only voice that could be heard was Dumbledore's as he spoke.
"Today, we acknowledge a really terrible loss," he truly didn't want to be sitting there as much as anybody else did.
"Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard-working, infinitely fair-minded, and, most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend. Now, I think, therefore you have the right to know exactly how he died. You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort!"
Everybody's heads looked up, in shock, in fear, in anger. Nobody wanted to believe that the Dark Lord had truly returned. Surely, it wasn't possible.
" The Ministry of Magic does not wish me to tell you this. But not do so – I think – would be an insult to his memory. Now, the pain we all feel at this dreadful loss reminds me...and reminds us...that while we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of recent events, the bonds of friendship that we've made this year will be more important than ever. Remember that, and Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain,"
While he spoke, Ruby looked to her left. She saw Draco sitting next to one of the Beauxbatons girls, keeping his gaze at the ground. She remembered how cocky he was at the beginning of the school year. To him, it was all just a big game to humiliate Harry. Now was time for a shock back to reality; that magic was a dangerous tool and people were not pawns to be played with. She remembered their conversation last night, and her heart sank. She wasn't sure if she had made a new friend, if anything, he was more like an acquaintance.
"You remember that, and we'll celebrate a boy who was kind and honest...and brave and true, right to the very end,"
----
Another year had ended, and Draco was trying to fit all of his belongings into his suitcase. Of course, he wasn't having the best of luck. As soon as he was out the door of his common room, his suitcase snapped open, and his belongings scattered all over the floor.
"Dammit!" he cursed. With a heavy sigh, he crouched down and began to throw everything back in his suitcase. But just before he could grab one of his shirts, it suddenly floated into the air, folded itself over, and placed itself in his case. He turned around, and found Ruby standing there in her civilian clothes, her wand in hand.
"Now, answer me this. What's the point in being a witch if you can't use witchcraft to solve your frustrations?" she asked with a smile.
"You and I seem to have a nasty habit of running into each other these days," he said.
"Must be karma," she replied. The rest of his belongings were then neatly packed into his case, the lid was shut, and the buckles clicked, "All better,"
"Where are you off to for the summer?" he asked her.
"Well, I'm not going back to the group home. I was talking to Hagrid, he said he'd gladly take me 'round the wilderness. Hiking, camping, all that fun stuff," she replied.
"That doesn't sound like something a girl would do," he said.
"I'm not most girls, though," she replied.
"True," he agreed.
"What about you, what're your plans? Scheming more ways to humiliate 'Saint Potter'?" she asked.
"I'm spending my summer at home, as normal most kids be doing the same. You should try it out," he said.
"What? Staying at home?" she asked.
"Being normal," he replied. Ruby scoffed.
"We're wizards. The word 'normal' disappeared from our vocabulary years ago," she replied.
"That being said, have fun on your camping trip," he said.
"Thanks, I'll send you some photos if you like. I hear Mount Merlin is beautiful this time of year," she said.
"Isn't Mount Merlin a volcano?" he asked.
"I'll take my chances," she replied, "I gotta go, I got a train to catch,"
"You know, you should wear skirts more often. You look good in them," he said.
"I have to disagree, but thank you for the compliment," she replied.
"What makes you think it was a compliment?" he asked as she started to walk away.
"We'll call it a 'theoretical' compliment," she replied.
"Have a good summer, Ruby," he called after her. She turned around and smiled.
"You too, Draco,"
