Ruby was uncomfortable for the remaining days of school. She had made haste to avoid most – if not all – contact with Slytherin students as much as possible. Christmas was only a week away, and she – along with the rest of the students – was busy packing up her things for her journey. She would be spending her Christmas with the Weasleys again.
Cho was nearly finished, she just continued to stuff as many piece of jewelry possible into a small bag, while Ruby was struggling to close her suitcase. Sleeves and shoes kept peaking out from the folds, hence she was having difficulties.
"You know, it may be easier to fold all your things and then close the suitcase," Cho said.
"Well, yeah...but that requires effort," she replied. She was finally able to get the case closed, turning it into a boxy lump on her bed.
"You never cease to amaze me," Cho said.
"Only for you, love," she grinned back, then she fell back onto her bed. She suddenly felt something sharp and hard pierce into her back, making her cry out in pain.
"Ow!"
"What is it?" Cho asked. Ruby sat up and pulled back her duvet, only to reveal a small black wooden box on her mattress.
"What in the name of Merlin?" she took the box and opened, finding a silver chain with a ruby gemstone pendant, "Oh my God," she gasped.
Cho raced over and jumped next to her, her eyes went wide at the necklace, "Ruby, that's absolutely lovely!" she exclaimed.
"Yeah, I don't know where this came from," she said.
"Is there a note?" Cho asked. They scoured the rest of the mattress and under the bed, but they couldn't find any indication of who the necklace was from, or where it came from.
"Well, it could be for you," Cho said, "A ruby for Ruby,"
"Is that someone's idea of a bad joke?" she asked.
"Or a sweet, late birthday gift," Nevertheless, it wasn't like Ruby was going to pass up this opportunity. She took the necklace out of its box and clipped it around her neck.
"Just a distraction from the harsher things,"

The train ride was utterly uneventful, Ruby felt as though she was in a haze while sitting in the cold train. She sat with Ron and Harry in their car, while Hermione had busied herself elsewhere. Ruby was on the cusp of sleep as she attempted to keep the conversation with the boys. But one word caught her attention.
"...I think Snape made an unbreakable vow," Harry said.
"Unbreakable Vow. You sure that's what Snape said?" Ruby asked.
"Positive. Why?" he asked.
"It's just, you can't break an Unbreakable Vow," Ron said.
"I worked that much out for myself, funny enough," Harry said.
