Blaine insisted on driving Kurt to the airport.

As much as it pained to even look at the other boy, Blaine felt he should, since they were boyfriends, after all. They weren't even sure if they were boyfriends, actually, which adds a whole other complication in the mess they had created.

"You've got everything, right?" Blaine asked him from the front door. They had exchanged little words since Kurt announced he was leaving for Lima.

"I've checked three times. So yes, I'm pretty sure."

And so they were off. Not once did Kurt look out the window on the drive to the airport, he just stared into his lap and at his shaking hands. He would only feel guilty if he started remembering. He tried not to remember nowadays.

The taxi pulled to a stop, and Kurt didn't hesitate to grab his bags and bolt out. He hoped that if he walked fast enough, Blaine wouldn't be able to keep up with him- you know, with the short legs and all.

"Hey!" Blaine called from behind him. Kurt stopped, not turning around. You're making it so hard for me to help you, he thought, Go before I hurt you more than I already have. "You don't think I would let you leave alone, do you?" I wish you would.

Blaine had to jog to catch up. They walked side by side, in an uncomfortable silence. It was painfully quiet, so much that Kurt was embarrassed. "Oh!" Blaine said suddenly, making Kurt jump a little, "Let me grab one of those bags, they're probably heavy."

He reached down to grab the duffel bag by the handles. That was his first mistake.

Their fingers brushed slightly and unexpectedly. Kurt let out a yelp, dropping his things to the ground.

"Whoa, what's going on?" Blaine asked, worry in his eyes.

Kurt sank on the wall panting and sweating. He closed his eyes, and tried to focus on his breathing. Calm down, Kurt. What's wrong with you?

Memories came flooding back to him, the images taking over underneath his eyelids. The cold, the hands on his waist, broken bottles, Teenage Dream. Kurt brought up his hands and yanked on his hair, as if pulling it out would help him.

Blaine bent down, scanning Kurt for any wounds. "What happened? Are you hurt?"

"Leave me alone!" Kurt snapped at him, earning a couple of curious looks from strangers passing by. "Just-just stop touching me! Don't touch me!"

Blaine's face read pure hurt and shock, as he backed away slowly. "I'm sorry."

Kurt sighed and stood up. "I'm going to go." Blaine followed, and started to walk after him. "Alone."

"What?"

"Stay here. I can do this myself."

Blaine looked down at his shaking hands and then back at Kurt. He could feel the tears building up behind his eyes, but blinked rapidly trying to fight them off. "What now?"

"We say goodbye."

He took a deep breath, and started on the speech he'd been planning out in his head. "Before you leave, I just wanted to say that I'm proud of you for deciding what's right for y-" No, no that's not what I want to say now. He started over.

"Do you remember when you were going back to McKinley, and the Warblers came to perform a spotless rendition of 'Somewhere Only We Know'?" How could Kurt forget? How perfect Blaine looked in his Dalton blazer... "And then afterwards, you said to me 'I'll never say goodbye to you.' Well I never plan on doing that either.

"You think that because we'll be miles away that you can get rid of me. And try as you might, I'll still be here, reluctantly keeping my distance, and thinking about you every single second of the day. I wasn't planning on telling you that, but it's true."

Kurt opened his mouth to speak, with unshed tears glistening in his eyes. Blaine cut him off. "And I know that you were going to break up with me, but I'll save you the trouble. As much as it pains me, it's the right thing to do. All I want is for you to be happy again. You're being set free, and all I can do is hope that you fly back to me at some point."

Kurt was left speechless staring into Blaine's glistening eyes. He could only say two words: "Goodbye, Blaine."

He walked off and never looked back.
