Jude's Pov
∽
Kindness is a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Wisdom can be handed from one generation to another, but so can hate and intolerance. If we are wise, we learn to distinguish the positive from the negative and discard the latter. That way, we multiply what is wise and let go of the dark places evil would lead, or at least, that is what Master Skywalker had told me.
I lay wide awake, trembling from another nightmare. It now seems completely impossible to get some sleep when all I see is my mother, falling to her death and my sister, crumbling to the power of darkness. Sometimes the dreams will change slightly and it'll be Corinthia falling to her death instead.
How does one describe a masterpiece like Corinthia W. Arlo? When I first met Corinthia, I had already lost my entire world. How can you hang on to something so incomprehensible? How can you keep pouring love into an abyss? But then there she was.
There was something in those blue eyes that was so beautiful, so safe and warm. In just one look I was home. I reached out and made the connection, and as if the force had arranged it, she fell for me just as hard.
The first day her and I ever talked, it was just the two of us in the hospital bunker at the Resistance Base, and I can still recall the conversation perfectly. She didn't know it, but that day she saved me. I was seven, barely hanging onto life after being beaten by a stormtrooper on a First Order ship. My grandparents had just been killed in an explosion, and my sister and I thought my mother was onboard the same escape pod. I was traumatized and scared but Corinthia came to me soothingly with a full heart and blonde hair in pigtails. We became inseparable, and though not married, we were one from that day on.
Corinthia stirs in my arms like a sleeping child. I suppose that's how our blossoming romance story starts, when we were children. Her nose wrinkled as her eyes came into contact with the glowing daylight from the window outside. Her blue orbs immediately met my dark brown pair and she smiled softly.
"What time is it?" She covered her tired face with her hands, yawning quietly.
"Early."
"I figured that much, as Dameron hasn't come to tell us to get our asses out of bed." She nuzzled her face into the crook of my neck. "Why are you up so early? Was it another nightmare?"
I nodded slightly. "I'm fine though."
She rolled her eyes and sat up, her long hair cascading down her back. "That's what you always say Jude."
"Because it's always true." I shrug in response.
"You can't possibly think that you can fool me." She laughed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I'm a Jedi." I replied with a cocky grin. "I can get away with anything."
"Keep telling yourself that laser brains," She leant up to kiss my cheek. "I'll see you later."
"Leaving so soon?"
"General Organa told me that as soon as I'm up, she wants to run me through the plan of attack once more." Corinthia explained, lacing her brown boots together.
"This early in the morning?" I groaned. "My grandmother sure is serious about this mission."
"When is she not serious Solo?" She made her way towards the door. "Meet me behind the docking bay in the next hour." It came out more as a command than a question, which I found alluring. "You know the spot."
I raised my eyebrow. "Why?"
"You'll see when you get there," And with that, she left me.
I stooped around my headquarters for a couple hours more, trying to lace my thoughts together. These dreams have become relentless and have started to make me restless. I don't want to admit it out loud but I'm growing fearful that the occasional dreams that have Corinthia falling to her death instead, are visions from the future. Or, they are just her toying with my mind.
I wouldn't be surprised, Bell - or should I say, General Isidore Ren is famous for entering people's minds in middle of the night; destroying their dreams and turning them into her own torturous game, making her victims go completely insane until they can't handle it any longer.
"Knock, knock," Rey strayed in from the doorway.
"Is the entire base up this early?" I questioned, making note of her visible lightsaber.
"You must of lost track of time kid," Rey chuckled, "It's daytime."
I roll my eyes. "I know that."
Rey's lips turn into a thin line. "What's troubling you?"
"N-Nothing." I stutter, giving a dead giveaway.
"Don't even try and lie to me Jude." Rey didn't look very impressed. "I'm going to ask again, what's wrong?"
"I had another nightmare."
Rey furrowed her brow. "Dreams come and go, you shouldn't worry too much about it. If it get's worse, I'd talk to Master Skywalker."
I nod in agreement, changing the subject. "Why'd you come here for?"
"Oh right," Rey laughed awkwardly. "Corinthia told me, to tell you, that she's waiting behind the docking bay."
My eyes widen and I trip over my own feet, landing flat on my back. "Thanks for reminding me." I grunt, wheezing at the sudden impact.
Rey laughed, shaking her head. "See you later kid."
I watch as Rey leaves my quarters, swaying her hips as she exits around the corner. Despite great Uncle Luke and grandmother, she was the closest thing I had to family.
After training together for a decade, you'd think that we'd be pretty close. I watched her fail and succeed and she watched me to do the same. When we had first discovered Luke on his lonely mountain, I wasn't sure what to expect, I was seven. Everything came with ease and within a years time, I was able to handle my great grandfathers lightsaber. Rey was ahead of me of course, for she was much older and had already known forms of skill.
The Resistance grew stronger over that time and a new form of Republic had been created, all thanks to the never ending hope of my grandmother. In this time, the First Order grew massively stronger as well. As far as our spies know, they have a base on a planet in the outer rims.
By the time I was ten, Luke, Rey and I had returned to D'Qar. In that time, several rescue mission attempts had been set in place, trying to save my sister from the First Order. When I was fourteen, it was then that we discovered that she didn't want to be rescued. She had become ruthless, she had slaughtered Resistance fighters like a butcher does a pig.
My sister was gone.
