Day 13: Family Ties

Leilani's Diary Entry: We just landed back in California about an hour ago. Odell decided to let me stay at his house for the time being. Odell have been so great to me, and I'm just happy that he's not like other guys...especially like my dad. I was glad that it was just all a dream. I wouldn't know what I would do without him.

Flashback to December 9, 2015.

"Where is she?" I looked at my watch to see that it was 7:30. She went to the bathroom around 10 minutes ago.

'It's  probably her time of the month.' I thought. I sat there patiently waiting for Leilani to come back until my phone started ringing.

"Hello?" I answered the phone. "Odell?" I sighed as I knew who I was speaking to.

"Hello, mom." There was a long pause before she began to speak again. "Hey, Odell." It was nice to hear her voice. "How ya' been?" She said again. "It's good." It was awkward speaking to my mom after all these years.

"Odell, I know you don't want to hear it, but I miss you. I want you to come home, or I can come to you. Please, I just need to see you." She pleaded over the phone. "Mom, I don't think that's a good idea." I told her.

"And why not? Is it a reason why I can't see my son?"

"No there's not a reason, I miss you too, but I just don't think it's a good idea." I told her.

"Listen Odell, I want to squash this beef with us. I know I've done some pretty messed up shit to you, the only way I can do this is to speak to you face to face. Please just give me a chance." I groaned.

"Fine, I'm on vacation right now, but I won't be back in California until the 13th of December. You can stop past my house. Ok?" I told her.

"Oh yes! Thank you Odell! I love you." She squealed over the phone.

"Love you too, bye."

December 13, 2015

Odell

"Odell can you help me please?" Leilani asked as she tried to grab a can of gravy  from the top of the shelf.

"Nope, it's cute seeing you struggle." I laughed as she started to roll her eyes. "Odell, it's no time for games. Your mom will be here in hours and I still need to cook the rest of the food."

"Leilani, we're only cooking for 3, it's not like she's bringing the whole gang."

There was a car door the slammed shut, we looked out the window to see my mom, my sister, cousin, grandma, and my Stepdad.

"And that's not the whole gang?" Leilani looked at me. "I didn't know she was bringing all of them!" I told her. She groaned and walked back into the kitchen.

My mother ring the doorbell and I answered it. "Hey Odell!" They all yelled in unison. I smiled. "Hey guys." My mom hugged me and walked into the house.

"Hmm, Odell it smells amazing in here." Mom says. "Well thank you, but it's not ready yet."

I hug my sister and my grandma. I gave my x
Cousin and Stepdad a handshake.

"So, tell us Odell, how ya' been?" Grandma Teresa asked me.

"I can't complain," I told her and she smiled. "It would be nice if ya' called some time."

"I'm sorry about, I just got really busy,"

"Who's in your kitchen?" My cousin Kavarah asked. "Oh I forgot, Leilani!"

I heard Odell called my name. I was really scared to meet his mom. "Leilani, I want you to meet my family."

"Are they gonna like me?" I asked him. "I hope so." He laughed a little. "Odell."

"Come on, most of them are nice." He grabbed my hand and pulled me into the living room.

"Guys, I want you too meet my girlfriend, Leilani Grove. Leilani, this is my Mom heather, my little sister Jasmine, my cousin Kavarah, my grandma Teresa, and my stepdad James."

I smiled shyly and waved. "Odell, I see you bro, she pretty as hell. She got a sister?" Kavarah asked.

"Yea, but she's twisted as hell." I told him and he smirked. "That's how I like em'."

"So Leilani, how long have you known my son?" Mrs. Heather asked me.

Mrs. Heather, Mrs. Teresa, Jasmine and me were in the kitchen finishing dinner.

"Since the first of December." I smiled and she nodded her head.

"You seem like a nice girl, and your really pretty." Jasmine told me.

"Aw, thank you." I took out the turkey from the oven. "Where you from?" Mrs. Teresa asked.

"I'm from Los Angeles." She smiled. "Oh so you never been down to Louisiana, oh you would love it." Mrs. Heather told me.

"Hopefully I can go soon." I looked down. I knew I wouldn't be able to.

"What's wrong?" I looked up and smiled. "Oh nothing."

"Well, looks like every thing is ready. Jazzy, go get the boys." Jasmine got up and walked to get the guys.

"Dinner was Delicious." Odell said as he put his sink in the dishwasher. "Well thank you, Mrs. Heather, Mrs. Teresa, and jazzy all helped me."

"Hey, we all should go out tomorrow. I saw a carnival while we was on the highway." Jazzy said.

"That's a good idea," Mr. James said.

"Great! Now, we should get going. Thanks for the dinner Leilani." I smiled. "Your welcome."

They all hugged us, and left. I started to clean up and Odell went upstairs. After I was done, I went upstairs with him.

"Hey, you ok?" I asked him. "Yea, I'm fine. I was just nervous. It's been 3 years." He told me.

I laid beside him in the bed. "Tomorrow you won't be that nervous." He looked at me. "I hope not." I kissed him.

"Love you."

"Love you too." I turned off the light and grabbed my diary to go downstairs to write.
