I sighed and forced the zipper of my last duffel bag closed. Inside of the three duffel bags that I had packed were six days and five nights' worth of clothes, books, and socks, not to mention more than a lifetime's worth of manga. It was t-minus 3 hours before I left for Electric Forest, and only that morning had I started packing. Joining our merry little group was Varien, (who wanted to be called Koinu), and because we couldn't fit the group into Mike's minivan, (I had found the fact that the CEO of a popular EDM label drove a minivan rather hilarious), Varien/Koinu would be driving in his own car, and Veela would be going with him. I'd be with the rest.

As I lay on my bed and shoved the final duffel bag off the edge, I heard the doorbell ring. I attempted to get up, then sighed and muttered,

"Whatever."

"Jessica, Gabe's here!" my mom called from downstairs.

"Or not," I muttered, then forced myself up and headed out of my room. As I was about to go downstairs, I was met by Gabe coming up.

"Your mom told me you would be in your room," he said, "So I came up here."

He was tightly clutching the book we had found at the crash site in his hand. I dragged him out of the stairwell, where sound carried far too easily, and into my room, then shut the door behind us.

"What is it," I asked, "Does it have something to do with the book?"

"Oh yes..." Gabe said, then opened up the book and continued, "It... translated itself, but only the first page."

I shook my head and exclaimed,

"You're crazy!"

Gabe shoved the book at me and asked,

"Alright, then, tell me: what is this?"

I looked at the first page, and sure enough, it was written in perfect English.

"Did you read it?" I asked excitedly. Gabe shook his head and replied,

"No, I wanted to wait for you. I headed over here as soon as I realized that there were actual words in it."

"Okay," I said, "So, I'll read out loud... it says: The Guide to Surviving All of the Strange Crap That Goes on in the Vancouver Wilderness... nice title, but anyways, continuing... Dear Gabe and Jessica..."

Gabe grabbed my arm and asked,

"Wait, does it actually say that? How did the writer of this thing know our names?"

I calmly freed my arm from his grasp and replied,

"Yes, it actually says that. Now shut up and let me read... Dear Gabe and Jessica, it seems that you have discovered our little secret. Now, you two know nothing about me, and that I can say is a fact. The most you'll ever know is that I know my way around the woods, and I know your names. That's all you need to know, anyways. I've seen some crazy situations in my life, and I can say quite a few things about situations, especially the people in them. There are people in a situation, and then people in a situation. You, my dear friend, are people in a situation. Not that you're in trouble or anything, but now you run the slight risk of dying before you can drive. Happy birthday, you two! Cheerio! So now that you two have screwed everything up without knowing it, I'm forced into becoming your guardian whatever. Because of the fact that, at the time of me translating this book, (wait, I didn't translate, I just wrote this note), but because of the fact that I have to have the book with me in order to translate, then I'm going to have to do it slowly. You have no idea how hard it is to break into Gabe's room and translate a book, even if you're in a non-material state and can turn yourself invisible at will..."
