Chapter 34

That night, I got ready for the training, and dressed in the clothes that X had given me a few weeks prior, then went to bed like I usually did. Got into my bed, pulled the covers over me, and fell asleep. Under my covers. In my bed. But when I woke up, I found myself lying in a grassy meadow, looking up at the stars. Something didn't feel right. Maybe it was the absence of a roof above me, or the absence of a bed, or the fact that I was suddenly out in the middle of the freaking wilderness for no apparent reason. I suddenly sat up, and asked,

"What the hell's going on?"

"Oh, nothing," someone replied, "You're just having a dream, that's all."

I looked around and asked,

"Who's there? Hello? Did I hear someone? I could have sworn I..."

"Boo!" the same person yelled, tapping me on the shoulder. I spun around, and almost slammed into Puppet. He waved, and happily said,

"Hi! It's nice to see that you're finally awake! X said that you'd wake up eventually, and I guess he was right. And now I owe him twenty dollars, so I'm sad."

"But did you know about... this?" I asked, lighting up my hand, "Because I thought you didn't know. I mean, you must know, because you know X, but... when did you find out?"

Puppet shrugged and replied,

"Tonight. X told everyone on the group chat, and then said that he's going to be training you, so everyone needed to come out here, and I'm pretty sure Krewella came here, which is cool. It's been a while since I've seen them in battle."

I leaned backwards and said,

"Wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. Just stop whatever you're doing, and wait."

"I'm doing nothing," Puppet casually said, "What am I waiting for?"

I held up my hand and continued,

"X told everyone on the group chat? Tonight? Without asking Gabe and I first? And battling with Krewella? Is this training or the Hunger Games? Are we training for the Hunger Games? Why did everyone need to come out here?"

"Uh..." Puppet awkwardly began, "I uh..."

"Yes, but only half, no it was actually in December before you even moved here, yes, you heard him right the first time, the Hunger Games, yes, because there's a party, in that order," X suddenly replied, popping out of thin air, a still half-asleep Gabe standing next to him, "And that's in response to your questions. Oh, and don't worry, it wasn't everyone. Just half of the people. Including the ones who already know. There's still a good chunk of Monstercat that doesn't know."

I nodded, and said,

"Good. I'm not sure if I want everyone else to know. I mean, that would mean that Gabe and I broke the rules, and yeah, the originals are okay with it, but..."

"Chill," X said, "They won't react all that badly. Alright, maybe the Pegboard Nerds will freak out completely, and maybe Aero Chord will live up to the song Saiko's name, and maybe, just maybe, Vicetone will start shrieking at you and ask you if you know the danger you're putting yourself in, and maybe just maybe Obsidia will stare at you in a shocked silence, but it's not that bad. Trust me."

My eyes widened, and I quietly asked,

"Is it just me, or does that sound even worse than I thought it was?"
